pioneer blu ray hdmi problem

Hello all, I had a pioneer hd upconvert dvd, connected to a pioneer vsx917 receiver by hdmi ,then connected to my plasma. Yesterday I got a pioneer blu ray and swapped out the dvd, however the blu ray shows a snowy screen for everthing except title screen and actual movie. So I decided to bypass the receiver (straight to tv) and still had a snowy screen with a phillips hdmi, 2 different monster hdmi ( 1 brand new from best buy) and i tried a older cheap rca hdmi and the rca is the only one that didnt have any snow. This is only when the player is set to auto video or 1080p, and my tv is 1080p. Thank you for any advice.

Try connecting to the display via component so you have a picture to use the menus of the BD player to do the update and then install the latest firmware update. That could solve the problem and you will need that latest update to play the latest BD movies anywat.

Good luck!
