An absolute minimum of 1". 2" and above is much better

Yes, I've heard they run hot, though mine never has. But my A/V stand has open sides and plenty of ventilation. Otherwise, the Onkyo is a great receiver. If you're thinking of purchasing one, or already have, you're really going to love it. Right now, I am watching the Alabama/South Carolina game. The audio puts you right in the stands. :banana:
