Dish 612 UHF??

Hello,

I am a noob here so please excuse me if this is a double post. I tried searching but found now answers.

I have a Dish 612 DVR Receiver. From what I understand it comes factory with UHF. I do have a black UHF tab on the bottom of my remote and also a UHF antenna on the back of my receiver.

From what I understood about UHF is that it doesn't require line of sight to work. That is why I bought this receiver because it is in a cabinet with no windows. But my remote does not function this way. If I hold my hand over my remotes IR emitters, it does not function. If I point it away from the receiver, breaking line of sight, it doesn not work. It acts as if it's on IR. I pull up my system info box and it has a box that says IR channel 1. Like i said though, my remote has a black UHF tab.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong here? Or am I totally mistaken that UHF doesn't have to have line of sight? Any help would be appreciated. BTW, I'm only standing 10 feet from the receiver, if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any help!

My 612 came with an RF remote. There's a wire antenna that comes with the receiver that screws onto a coax style antenna jack on the back of the unit. Check to make sure the antenna is in place. If the antenna is there you may have to get the antenna away from all the wiring behind your equipment. To make mine work better I added a short piece of coax to the jack and screwed the antenna to that. It is just long enough that I can hang the little antenna on the wall behing the entertainment center. You can't see the antenna but getting it out on the wall made all the difference in the world. Now my remote works from anywhere in the house. I use the 612 for the bedroom TV but the receiver is in the family room with all my other equipment and the remote works fine

Yeah I tried that too from advice I got from another forum. Didn't work. Does you remote work IR too? or is it just UHF? I swear mine is working like IR even though it has the UHF black chip.

The info that came with my 612 said the remote is RF and the tech that installed it confirmed this. It is not IR that I can tell.

I don't think I ever had a Dish remote that was RF only. A model 6.4 came with my 612, and it does both.
That remote was set for UHF, but can be switched, but I use a universal remote with the DVR now, and it is IR only.
