Hey,

I have a HP vs17c monitor which supports 1280 x 1024 so i assume it also supports 720p(1280 x 768). I am looking for a cheap adapter where i can plug a ps3 or xbox 360 into it via component so my friends can use it when they bring their systems over. I can't find a vga to component cable or adapter so I can do this, where can I find one?

Thank You.

Here you go - you need a transcoder:

that's pretty expensive, I was looking for something >$30 since I don't use it very much.

You need to transcode VGA which is analog RGB into Component which is analog YPbPr. They are not the same thus forth a simple cable won't work.

Yes - the one I linked. There are others from $250 to $500.

If it is mainly for a 360 why not just get a 360 VGA cable. You can get 1 for like $7.. Ps3 does not support VGA so no cable option there. As far as a converter goes, your better off getting a 20'' 1080p monitor with HDMI or DVI for around $200 instead of wasting your money on a converter. Most of the converter/adapters run around $150 or so like Lee stated. I seen a couple for around $40-$50 like the 1 below. Mixed results on some though.
