Problem with DTV menu

Hi,

I just put up an omnidirectional roof antenna, running down to an amp before hitting the ASTC on the TV. It's a Protron 42.

To set up the digital broadcase, the menu says put the coax into ASCT. Then set the tv source to "DTV." The go into the menu, select the "DTV" submenu, and do a channel scan.

So I tried this. When I set the tv source to "DTV," the menu does show a DTV submenu. But when I arrow onto it's icon, the entire menu just disappears. I tried it a bunch of times, all with the same result. It's supposed to flip to the DTV submenu, with the digital channel scan function, etc. Because the menu is disappearing, I'm unable to scan for the local DTV channels.

It's perplexing. Has anyone ever seen this before?

Thanks,
Dave

It sounds like a problem with the television, I would take it back to where ever you bought it if I were you. And the next time I bought a television, I would make sure that it was a common brand name television and not some off brand.

Dave,

The website for your tv is here: http://www.proton-usa.com/ Unfortunately, it appears that their link for support is not working. If you go to the contact us section, you can find an e-mail address and a phone number for contact purposes. Your issue does appear to be related to an internal software/hardware conflict within the tv and should be covered by the warranty.

What is the model number. There are half a dozen or so manuals listed.

In other posts you explained that setting to tuner would let you scan. So maybe we can figure how to navigate this confusing menu.

Interesting, the download manual option would not work for me with Firefox browser... He has the Proton 42 tv.

I googled for the manual and found this page

http://www.protonav.com/download.asp

There are 6 manuals for 42" tvs.

Hopefully Dave returns. JB's comments in this thread were not really helpful to the poster...

The generic manual for all models does not use the term DTV. It calls out Digital Tuner.

Also there is only one rear F connector for NTSC/ATSC.

But it the setup for antenna it says to plug into the side connector????????

Somebody needs to hire a good tech proofreader.

You all are great. Thanks for helping. I found the manual online under Spectronix PLTV 4250. Here's the site with the link to download it:

This has been a great tv for the money. Great HD picture. If I have to bring it for repair I certainly will. It just seems like I'm missing something, though, and that it should work.

Please toss out any more suggestions.

Thanks,
Dave

Reread page 31 of the pdf manual or page 23 of the hard copy. It says the DTV menu behaves differently than the rest of the menu system!

I have to assume that is causing the weird result.

I cannot tell if the info on page 19 of the pdf manual or page 11 of the hard copy is correct.

Good Luck
