Finding channels with auto scan?

Hi, I have a Proton 42" LCD. It has ATSC and NTSC female inputs. I attached the digital ready to go omni roof antenna, via the amp, to the ATSC. But it won't find any channels on autoscan.

I set the source to tuner. Is that wrong? There is also a source for digital. I tried that and get nothing. When I set the source to digital and go to menu, there is an option for "DTV," but when I select DTV the menu just disappears. I have to set the source back to tuner to get the menu to permit me to switch from air to cable irc and hrc. So when I pick "air," and do the channel scan, I don't get any channels found.

Grateful for any help. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious.
Thanks,
Dave

Your antenna may be inadequate or mis-installed. What is your zip code?

I'm at 19147.

It's the equivalent to Winegard MS2000.

Thanks.

Should I have the tv source set to "tuner?"

Yes and make sure it is set to digital scan not analog if you have that option.

To wetwonder,

Here is your generic zip code TV fool report.

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3d03fb70fbc7aae3

Which suggests that you should get some good on air TV reception.

If not, something is probably drastically wrong, in your scanning procedure, coax run, or whatever.

Its still a troubleshooting problem, but maybe your best clue lies in consulting near neighbors. If they do well and you get nada, you know something is wrong. An antenna system is like a chain, only as strong as the weakest link. And it sure sounds like one link in the chain is a total zero.

I found the manual. It says for DTV and HDTV signal, put the coax into ASCT. Then set the tv source to "DTV." The go into the menu, select the "DTV" submenu, and do a channel scan.

So I tried this. When I set the tv source to "DTV," the menu does show a DTV submenu. But when I arrow onto it's icon, the menu just disappears. Its supposed to flip to the submenu, with the digital channel scan function, etc. Has anyone ever seen this before?

When you go to the DTV submenu, the entire menu disappears? It does not give you the scan channels option?
