PS3 Visual Help

Hello.... I've been fighting my PS3 & tv (mitsu 60' dlp, 3 months old) with a minor issue that hopefully some of you could shed some light on.

A month or two back I had to switch over from HDMI cables to component cables as my HDMI cable wasn't bringing up the picture or audio.

Component cables work just fine, however there is one small draw back which is slowly driving me crazy. When viewing any game or dvd I can see a series of purple waves moving through the back ground of the game/video from bottom to top. It's not overly noticable but if you look close enough you can see it.... or when the screen is primarily black then it's pretty obvious that there are purple scrolling bars.

I've searched all over and can't really find much about this issue. Any help or tips would be most appreciated.... there's a few games I'd love to purchase (dead space) for the ps3 but with their seemingly dominate use of a black screen I'd hate to buy the game only to suffer through such a pain in the butt problem.

Thank you in advance for your help/ideas:hithere:

sounds more like a TV issue then a PS3 issue.. i NEVER heard of anything like that regarding being a PS3 issue. try turning on/off cross color reduction, i dont know its a guess shot, however cross color reduction only applies to using standard AV cables(e.g. composite or S-video) but it doesnt hurt to try.

also try turning on/off super white. make sure your running the PS3 at the resolution that your TV is. and make sure the component cables are securely in place on the back of the TV.

it sounds like this is happening ALL the time, when playing any game, watching any movie, if so then its certainly not a PS3 issue, instead its a TV issue.

try switching the component cables to another input, im sure your TV has more then one component input right?. if it still doesnt work try another set of PS3 component cables. by the way which ones are you using? the official sony cables or something else?

if when using HDMI cables it stopped brining up the picture and audio, it makes me think even more that its a TV issue.

Sounds like a ground loop problem. What else do you have connected to your tv? Often a coax cable hooked directly into the tv is the culprit. Unhook everything from the tv except the componant cables and see if the scrolling black bars go away.

It does sound like ground loop, but I'd say just try a three to two prong plug adapter.
