i thought my 622 dvr bit the dust, and dish shipped me another one. it didn't work either (or so i thought); then i decided to check my hdmi cable...
it was plugged into port #1 on the back of my polaroid 46" hdtv. i plugged it into port #2...everything was fine. has anyone heard of one of these ports going bad, out of the blue, for no reason?

Polaroid branded tvs are bottom tier sets at best. It doesn't surprise me a bit the one of the HDMI inputs went bad like that. If you check the web you will find MANY such complaints about Polaroid. :(

well, that's a shame. i've been happy with the tv, other than that (although the sound quality leaves something to be desired). i did get the extended warranty on it...may have to use it. everything i buy is a piece....:haha:

It's not that HDMI itself has problems, it's the oppressive DRM schemes and HDCP that cause the nightmares.

well, i'll use port #2 'til it's a goner. after that, i can still use the audio/video standard hookups....
i really didn't see much difference between hdmi & standard, even though there's supposed to be a big one...but i am a part of the 'great unwashed', down here in texas...maybe my eyes & ears are substandard...:D

Do you have your DVR set to output HD? If you're not seeing a "BIG" difference between HDMI and standard (composite?) input on a 46" screen, then you aren't watching HD content or you really have a bad TV.

no, the hd picture is great either way; i've been really happy with it (dvr setting is 1080i)....
now, my 42" vizio hd is on composite; it doesn't look quite as sharp, but it's 720p, whereas my polaroid is 1080i....
can't remember what i paid for my hdmi cable 2 years ago...i think it was around $30...
