It is so hard to believe another baseball season is gone but the good part is here comes the playoffs wich promises some great series all the way to the end I think.
I am a bit suprised Detroit is going with rookie pitcher Porcello on the road in the 1 game must win Tuesday verses the Twins. The guy has pitched very well for a rookie going 14-9 so maybe he will be fine. But I do not think either the Tiger or Twins could beat the yankees in the first round.
My playoff picks are...
AL
Yankees over the Tigers/Twins winner
Angels over the Red Sox
Yankees over Angels
NL
Colorado over Philly...this will be the best one to watch in the 1st round as it'll be close & go either way imo.
LA over St Louis...St Louis SUCKS!
LA over Colorado
World Series
Yankees win easily over the Dodgers & Derek Jeter wins the MVP.
My picks in football have been so bad I probably just jinxed the Yankees by picking them:)

Of course I would love to see a Dodgers/Angels World Series, but Yankees/Dodgers would be awesome too. Heck, I don't care who they play, I just want to Dodgers in the Series!!! :) :)

My preseason WS pick was Red Sox/Dodgers, but I don't think either team is going to make it to the WS.
Yankees over Twins/Tigers in 4
Red Sox over LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA in 3
Yankees over Red Sox in 7
As for the NL, it's rather hard to pick due to how much competition there is this year. I could see every series in the NL going the distance. The competition is just insane.
And i'll be missing games 1 and 2 of the Rockies/Phillies series due to class. Gay.

I totally agree with you on that one. Even though I picked the Dodgers, the Cards have two very lethal hitters in Pujols(the best in the game) & Holliday. Plus they have Ace pitcher Chris carpenter & even though Wainright is not an ace people need to remember what an awesome pitcher he was for the Cards in the world series a couple years ago. So this should go 5 easy.
And how about them Rockies again...Troy Tulowitzski has to be becoming a household name as the guy is freaking awesome imo.
And I love their manager Jim Tracey as he was born & raised here in our hometown of Hamilton, Ohio as also was starting pitcher Aaron Cook who wasn't born in Hamilton but moved here when he was very young & played all of his baseball here in our little leagues & public HS as they won the state title his senior year. So I guess I am a bit biased picking the Rockies as again this one easily goes 5 games also.

WoW! If that Twins/Tigers game is a prelude of what's to come in the baseball playoffs this is gonna be more exciting than I thought.
That was a great game & went to the 12 inning, you cannot ask for better than that. I thought the Tigers rookie pitcher who I was concerned about pitched very well even though he came out in the 6th I think.
But it was like my buddy said last night that the Twins/Tigers game to see who was playing the Yankees was like the play in game for the NCAA March Madness tournament...in other words the Twins don't have a chance!
If your team is still in it then good luck! I will be rooting for the Rockies, but I think the Yankees will win it.

Hats off to the Phillies GM & Manager...
first to the GM for getting Cliff Lee for probably not much & he is a better pitcher than Hamels.
secondly to Manuel for starting Cliff Lee in game one as he is a freaking beast of a pitcher & much btter choice than Hamels. Hopefully for Philly fans Lidge & Madson won't ruin any of these great pitched games. I think since it is the playoffs as long as the velocity is there why not let them thow a 140 pitches if needed to stay away from that Philly bullpen.

Two triple a prospects , one dbl A, the only notable was single A Lou Marson a really nice catcher that can swing the bat as well, the other ok player was a right hander named Carasco, followed by two not so well known guys

Also I didn't want to come off sounding like I don't think Hamels is a heck of a pitcher as he very well is. I just think right now Lee is the better guy & Hamels has many more great years to look forward too including the ones he already has.

I never thought that at all , it is obvious that you are a sports fan so surely you know better. And you didn't even mention JA Happ. I had him in fantasy for about half the season & was able to get John Lackey for him straight up. I think he was 7-0 when I traded him. The Phillies, barring injury & they need a closer, have alot to look forward too the next few years imo.

He had such great stuff with SF & just went straight downhill.

Sawzalot if you had been following the whole thread wich is still short you would see the Rockies have one of their aces, Aaron Cook, and head coach Jim Tracy who are both from Hamilton, Ohio a small city in wich I reside in & is basically part of the "greater Cincinnati area". Tracy graduated from the Catholic high school here in Hamilton in 1974 & Cook Played for our public HS wich I attended & led them to a state title.
Plus I sure can't root for the Reds as we are a year or two away. So until the Rockies are out I am gonna root for them, but I NEVER said anything negative about the Phillies. What another great day of playoff baseball. Especially since the two teams I want to see win won their games.
And that Yankees game was great & I called both Homers...of course I was very lucky but I called them...when Arod came up you just knew it...And I was watching the game on the laptop while we were playing Xbox & when Tex came up to bat I couldn't get it out of my mouth that I was gonna say Tiexiera is gonna win it with one swing & BOOM it was gone!!!
If you don't get excited about playoff baseball you may need to check your pulse ;) :D
Gonna be two more great ones tomorrow evening as we got the Dodgers @ Cardinals & Philly @ Rockies.
I want to see LA sweep the Cardinals. I know Padilla has been a great addition & hopefully he will come thru, but it'll be tough taking down Pujols & Co. in St Louis. It's gonna be a toss up but the Dodgers will prevail.
And Philly is starting Pedro & Pedro is da man! I don't care how old he is & I look for Philly to win as long as the Bullpen doesn't blow it for him as Pedro just can't go very long no more.

I got extremely lucky and a buddy of mine invited me to go. His construction company has season tickets. I go to about 4 or 5 games during the year and I usually just over pay using stubhub or acetickets. It sucks but its really the only way to get tickets last minute. I usually get some cheap seats for about 3 of the games and spend a little more to get really nice seats atleast once a year.
I did find a number a few years ago on a redsox forum to purchase world series tickets from. I called the number once the tickets went onsale for about an hour straight until i got through. Got World Series tickets at face value 150 each. Got to see Curt Shillings last game.

No Dodger fan here even though I have them picked to go to the world series & lose to the Yanks. But that was a great showing in their sweep of the cardinals, a team I cannot stand.
For Matt Holiday's sake I hope the cardinal fans realize that without his bat they would probably not have gotten to the playoffs anyways so they won't tear him to shreds in every paper & raido & TV show in St. Louis the whole off season as he does not deserve that.
But hey back to the Dodgers...I cannot believe it that I read yesterday that Texas a .5 game behind the Angels let Padilla go   I think I read he went 4-0 with a 3.40 era for LA & now wins the clincher in the first round...Exactly why Dodgers make the playoffs sometimes & the Rangers never do.

Gonna be very tough for the Rockies now as I believe after the game I heard them say that Philly was starting Cliff Lee today. He will be very tough to beat & IF the Rockies get through him they will have to face Hamels I would think. Philly is in a great position now to win this.
And last night after the Rockies Betancourt struck those guys out in the 8th & that stadium was rocking that Colorado had it in the bag but Philly's playoff expierience from last really paid off for them with their clutch hitting in the 9th. It was a great baseball game.
Hey Sawzalot...now be honest....was you a nervous wreck once you got that lead & Brad Lidge stepped on the rubber to close the game  I jumped on Lidge very, very early in my fantasy draft this year(I always draft him) & he killed me, but maybe after getting thru a game like that last night he might return to his old self wich would be trouble for the Rockies & then the Dodgers.

I know that it will be one tough series and the Dodgers actually have the better pitching this time around, but as long as the Phillies continue to show this unscathed determination there is just no stopping them.

Well I don't know about you guys but i can't wait for tomorrow night to get these games going...and I am not even a true fan of any of the 4 teams, so yes I guess you guys are really pumped. I guess since they Rockies got sent packing I'll root for the Yankees since they were my favorite AL team to root for back in the 80's & 90's.
I love to make predictions so here it goes...
National League...I rarely change my picks once I make them but Phillyy has such deep starting pitching with Lee, Hamels, Happ, & Pedro & the fact the Lidge looked like his old self those last two games I just can't see LA beating them. And their lineup is just brutal with guys like Utley, Howard, Victorino, Werth & a pretty good leadoff hitter in Rollins that is gonna be tough for Dodger pitching to deal with. I think it will go 6 games. But the key imo is that Lidge does not go back to his old ways. I know GW & Sobay totally disagree with me & you should as LA has an awesome team but the Phillies have a definite edge in pitching imo & that's where the game is won.
American League...No change here as the Yankees will beat the Angels. The reason they will is there is just to much Jeter, Arod, Teixeira, Sabathia, Burnett, Rivera, ect., just too many great players in those pinstripes. I originally said Yankees in 6, but I am going Yankees in 5 & if the Yankees decide to go with the 3 man rotation wich I heard they are considering I think they will sweep.
Good Luck to your guys' teams ! :hithere:

I can assure you that most of Philadelphia and surrounding fan base locations are asking the same question, Why the heck are you pulling out a pitcher that gave up two hits and is in the process of owning the Dodgers big guns for game two, I still cant believe Cholly did that, but Pedro kept his head held high and showed no ill will towards anyone after the game, I always assumed that he was a wacko and in all honesty he is a pretty decent person publicity wise.Series tied up and welcome to Philly and a guy named Cliff Lee, Lets Go Phillies..

Well I must say, maybe the Dodgies started to celebrate a wee bit too soon last night, what a comeback by the PHIGHTEN PHILLIES, this years team has sooo much heart just an unreal desire to win and it looks like the Dodgers are ready to call it a day.
GO PHILLIES
JUST WIN BABY !

Dodger fans have been awfully quiet the past few days. I wonder why. http://sigsports.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/teehee.gif

Hi Saw, I have been watching The Phil/Dodgers since my team was knocked out by the Angels.
I lived in Cali for a bit so I have mad love for Manny, and Cali. Your boyz bought that chit home last night though, WOW!
They were so amped, I thought they had won the series, lol.
Yo, what happened to your Eagles Sun, I think it was the pigeons fault, lol. I'll post a pics tomorrow.
yeh and where are the yankee fans.is everybody from the west coast ,here?
by now you know the dodgers have there back to the wall. i was hoping for a yankee dodger series ,but it doesn't look like thats going to happen. but you never know ,its the playoffs, anything can happen.
as we also know people love to hate the yankees, i love the yanks always did. years ago before big payrolls and free agents people still hated the yankees. more times then not we have had the last laugh.
btw lets not cry about the yankees payroll ,because if i owned a baseball team why not own a winner and pay the big bucks for it.
it makes no sense to own a team and lose every year. [cubs]
if you have the money in the first place to be able to own a baseball team ,put a winning team on the field! owners wake up please and stop keeping the money for yourself and ripping off fans!
i'd love to see the cubs get a winning team ,the royals etc. the problem is owners are greedy, they know they can fill the stands.
the nfl is a good example. n o matter what they put on the field every park is sold out for years. come on!

Congrats to the Phillies on a well deserved trip to the world series. They were just too much for the Dodgers, as I remember I changed my pick from LA to Philly after I looked that lineup & starting pitchers over it just looked to good for Philly.
I know you Dodger fans are bummed over this but you guys had a very good season. I think your downfall was when Billingsley went from being maybe the best pitcher in the NL to a human batting tee, that really hurt LA imo.
The Yankees winning the WS is the last thing I want to see, so i'll be rooting for the WS. Seeing as I hate the Yankees and live about 10 miles from Yankee Stadium, it would really blow hard if they won it all. I'm sure i'd be seeing a bunch of ''ZOMGZ YANKEES WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!'' statuses on facebook and not to mention a bunch of people would be wearing ''Yankees World Series Champions'' gear on campus.
