Looking to make a double loop antenna for UHF TV.
Anyone use one?
What is the size of the loops.

Thanks

Hi Ken,

I don't recall anyone posting about a loop antenna on this forum. Holl_ands, a respected communications engineer, has modeled the loop antennas and posted results in a different forum. Unfortunately, by forum rules, we not supposed to post links to other forums.... If you use google, search for Holl_ands loop antenna and the appropriate link will come up in the top ten... :)

Thanks for the info.
I just made this quad/double loop without the balun.
Works OK
Don't know I made it right 20.5" is the length of each loop

How does it compare to your other antennas?

Well better than the 19" dia loop I made with balun.
Dancing with the stars is almost over :yippee:
Will test soon.
Thanks

It works better than I thought.
Reflector helps.
Not as good as 4 bow tie BUT good in tight places.

Please post any results you have.
Thanks

Sorry, I don't have any results with a loop. I've mostly played around with my 4-bay mclapp. I compared different whisker length and bay spacings. No difference between 9.5x9, 10x9.5, and 11x9.5 at my location. In my case, my towers are 70 degrees apart and I needed to increase the beam width on the four bay. On mclapp's recommendation, I tried sweeping the elements back 1" and set the reflector at 5-1/2" behind the 4-bay. Sweeping back did increase beam width and reduced signal loss with off beam aiming. I am currently playing around with a 2-bay but not ready to release results.

Thanks for asking and for reporting your results!

Best,

Rick

The Antennas Direct ClearStream 2 is a double loop with reflector....and its a nice little antenna.

The loops diameter should be in the 8 to 9 inch range.

You also get lower noise floors with loops as they operate on catching the magnetic side of the eletromagnetic wave vs the electric side (that dipoles and bowties do). That is the short laymans version. :) Which means higher signal to noise ratio, which is a real increase in usable gain (similar to what amplifiers do).

Best regards

I tried putting two of them together.

two figure 8 fed in the middle.
I used a balun BUT it did not work too well.
I don't know if I make it right?

looks like this
