Trying and failing to build an HD DVR (sigh)

Looking for some design help, folks. I'm trying to put together a PC-based HD DVR". I have a HTPC with hardware decoding and an HDMI output, which I intend to connect to one of the HDMI inputs of my TV. The STB is a Verizon/Motorola QIP71001. My problem is on the input side of the PC. I had intended to use a Hauppauge HD1600 Hi Def tuner card connected to the STB. The card has S video and Coax inputs only. I think this means I'm not going to get 1080i into the DVR no matter what I do, correct?

Assuming the tuner card is useless, does anyone know of a box/card/magic wand that will give me 1080i input to my PC, supports IR control of the STB (for channel changing to allow scheduled recordings) and is compatible with some reasonable DVR software package?

By the way, the Hauppauge card comes with an IR blaster, but they don't have a learning mode for it, and it has never heard of the Motorola STB, even though it has been aroound for years.

Any help appreciated!!

I think your best bet is to wait until early next year. There are tuner cards coming out, that will install directly into your PC, with all the bells and whistles you want, and CableCARD slots so you can tune in all the linear channels you pay for.
