I'm in South Florida and just got the new Comcast cable box. The black touch screen one. The new box has 480,720,1080 settings like the old box, but the new one has a "native" setting. Is that the best way to set the box so my hd channels and sd channels are shown the best way possible? thanks.

Well, tigerbangs, I do consider myself a real man, but circumstances dictate what is practical and what is not as far as outdoor vs. indoor antenna placement is concerned. I have Directv for my programming and have a Winegard GS2200 antenna on a rotator in my attic as a backup for those rare instances when I lose satellite signal. That being said, my signal strengths on this antenna range from 92 to 100 and have always had a strong, rock soild picture.

A real man wouldn't make such an absurd statement...
Well the only problem I have is if I set the box to 1080i changing channels between HD to HD and HD to SD is instant. If I have it set to native there is a 5 second delay between channels. I guess my question should be is it ok to just leave it on 1080i. Picture seems the same even on 480 sd channels.

Racist, please... Poor product quality has nothing to do with race.
Rick0725 10-05-2009, 09:54 PM I prefer native "off", 1080i stretch for my every day viewing with my directv boxes. makes the 481i stuff look much better. I occassionally switch to 720p to watch sports on abc/fox/espn. But that is rare.
I use native "on" only when I capture a signal for creating DVD's or blu rays (my new hobby).
I found that several cable channels output at 1280x720P instead of 1920x1080i during this process.
Set the box at 1080i stretch native off and see how you like it.
tcarcio 10-06-2009, 09:53 AM I always set it to the native res of my tv or pj. That way your display shows the picture as intended.

I can't believe he actually made that statement. Racist? Unbelieveable! He should read the online product reviews of Korean branded consumer electronics vs. Japanese branded components. I purchase quality not crap. If that makes me racist, so be it.

Exactly.
1happyguy 10-11-2009, 08:29 AM Why even bother and put an antenna in the attic? Where in this post did it say anything about race?

Look at post #6 in this thread from tigerbangs. He made the comment that begged to be responded to and we did. It was an irresponsible statement. You ask why bother putting an antenna in an attic. My post(#3) states circumstances dictates placement indoors or out(practicality). My attic install works flawlessly with a rotator/amplifier combination....consistent signal strength 92-100% 26 miles from the NYC towers through trees about 300 yards away.

I think that your results would be MUCH BETTER if it was outside!! You may get channels up to 50 miles away!!

Please re-read my post#3. It is not practical in my situation to place a OTA antenna outside. Get it? Furthermore, I have no interest in receiving channels 50 miles away, just my NY/NJ metro area locals which come in great. Better results? With respect to what-signal strength? Other than in the worst weather conditions my DT locals come in at or close to 100%.
