Even if you own the movies, current laws permit you to copy, only if you do not circumvent any encryption. In other words, basically any movie that you have purchased or rented has an encryption method making it illegal to copy. This law sucks and me disagrees with it, but, none the less,,,it is law. Some sites, such as doom9 offer good reasons and explain the law much better than me can. if you disagree with this law,,,please vote,,,and support your local artist instead of the conglomerates. tiazu 10-07-2009, 11:24 AM DVDfab works great.... :) ~tiazu Loves2Watch 10-07-2009, 10:09 PM DVDfab works great.... :) ~tiazu Which is illegal to use for ripping in the US. tiazu 10-08-2009, 09:23 AM Which is illegal to use for ripping in the US. People should be warned that this sort of software is considered illegal by many and should proceed accordingly. oblioman 10-10-2009, 08:14 PM Don't read too much into the warnings as they are not necessarily making a moral assesment, I don't think. Most of us have they way's and means to rip & burn almost anything, but it is a moral issue. Me take is that we should be legally allowed to make a working back-up of media that we purchase. Anything beyond that should be considered a crime. Blazer 10-11-2009, 01:50 AM i just ask what format was needed so MC would play the file, thats all. lsilvest 10-11-2009, 07:48 AM i just ask what format was needed so MC would play the file, thats all. It may depend on your version of WMC - 2005, Vista, or 7? You should be able to get a list of recognized formats through help. Mpeg2 is always a safe bet and should work with any of them. I know 7 recognized my OTA transport stream recordings (.ts or tp changed to ts) which are essentially Mpeg2. Not a movie buff, so I don't have ripping issues. If I had morality issues I'd run for Congress - the morality support group. rbinck 10-11-2009, 08:52 AM i just ask what format was needed so MC would play the file, thats all.Playing the file is one thing and integrating into Media Center so that all of the menu features are available is another. So far I've been able to play the .ts/.tp (mpeg2) files created by my MyHD tuners in MC 2005, but they don't integrate into the menus like the files recorded with the tuner built into the media center that makes .dvr-ms files, also mpeg2. Since the file types are really just a container and do not necessarily define the codec of the file, there seems to be some information that needs to be coded in the container to allow full integration. Now the .ts or .m2ts (mpeg4) files my Hauppauge 1212 HD video capture device creates will not play in my media center, but do play in Windows Media Player and Total Media Theater. So for the moment I have given up on trying for full integration and use one of the players to play my recorded videos. By the way, I use the Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR Video Capture device (http://www.highdefinitionblog.com/?page_id=331) to record movies from HD DVD and Blu-ray discs by playing the disc and recording via the component outputs to get around the ripping illegal aspects. The copies actually look as good or better than OTA broadcast HD. | |
