Denon upgrade question

I have the Denon avr-2807 with. focal surround, jbl sub and a PS3.

Would it benefit me to upgrade to the latest Denon line? Is there a big sound difference with TrueHD and dts-HD enough to justify a upgrade??

That is up to you. I would recommend that you audition it and see (hear) for yourself if it is worth the added expense.

With the Ps3 you can already get the HD audio by just having the PS3 do the decoding instead of just bitstreaming the SD audio through HDMI. I have the Denon (mass retail model) AVR-887 which is the same model year and have the same HDMI 1.1 that does allow HD audio over an HDMI connection when the source player does the decoding of the HD audio and sends it as the unzipped codec in it's original LPCM form.

I am thinking about purchasing a used 2807, and would love to hear some comments. I know it does not decode the True HD or DTS Master codecs, but I'm hoping my Panasonic BD35 would do the job. Would this be a big upgrade from teh Onkyo 606 I have? I current have the following speakers:

Polk Audio RTA11TL's as fronts
Polk Audio CS400 for a center
Polk Audio Monitor 30's as rears
Def. Tech Prosub 800 as a subwoofer.

Thanks,

Pycroft

Yes as long as you let the player do the decoding you will get HD audio with that receiver & the BD35.

Will the Denon be a big upgrade over the Onkyo though? I am looking for something with preouts, so this fits, but straight up between the two, which is better? Video/audio/everything.

Would love to get opinions

I believe Denon IS better than Onkyo for sound quality and closer to actual source material myself. I do think the Onkyo generally have more features/inputs for a price range but I think the SQ itself is even more important so I have Denon & Yamaha receivers and my only Onkyo is in the game room.

Pretty much equal except the Onkyo has more inputs/outputs.
