Usually somebody has one of these started by now so I guess I will.
I have never enjoyed hockey except when I was about 12 yrs old & seen the USA beat the USSR in the Olympics.
I have tried & tried to get into it & can't....BUT....I think I may have found a way to get into it...I drafted me a fantasy Hockey team so I have to follow it now. Columbus is gonna be my team...are they any good?

And what do you hockey guys think of my fantasy team? this is the order they were taken & the # is what pick overall...

I have started to but an older version like 08 or maybe now 09 to see how they play, I just always figured they were a thumb breaker since you would constantly be moving your skater up & down the ice. I may try it though.

Can't really speak for the fantasy team, as I'm not the biggest "stats" guy. Selanne is good, although he's not getting any younger~

Who is your carrier? Do you get the Versus channel? That's a good place to see games not involving your local team. Also, I see you are a Steelers fan... You know the Penguins won the Stanley Cup last year, right? Not that I like them, but they are good...

I think my Kings will surprize a lot of people this year!!!

I got DirecTv & I think they got rid of Verses. But I probably would not watch much more than that some Blue Jacket games. I do know Pittsburgh won the Stanley Cup as I did follow the scores & highlights on ESPN. I was really hoping to get the top pick so I could draft Crosby, but Crosby went second behind some guy named Overchin(spl?) I watched the NHL channel this morning & it sounds like Overchin is da' man in the NHL.
My team is probabaly kinda weak cause I drafted alot of guys from Columbus, but I did hear them talking about how great of a player the first Blue Jacket on the list was.

Oh well hopefully I will like it.

Haha!! Yeah, i can see why they can be called thumbreakers!!

Yeah, start with '09 if you are going older. That game was supposedly great. '10 built off of that, and i think its the shit!!

Hey, CBJ don't really suck, they just aren't one of the top teams~ ;)

The guy you are referring to is Alex Ovechkin (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?id=4729&hubname=nhl-capitals) of the Washington Capitals. Yeah, he pretty much IS the man, although one of the biggest "debates" in the NHL is who is the better player: Ovechkin or Crosby... Personally, I like Alex better. He isn't really "poster" material like Sidney Crosby is, but that is part of why I like him.

I hightly suggest that if you can, go to you tube and search Alex Ovechkin. You will see some of the most AMAZING goals you have ever seen.

My favorite (I have a little clip @ home) was a goal he scored against Phoenix a couple of years ago... He was skating full speed into the Coyote's zone with the puck & got tripped. So he falls down sliding, rolls over on his back, and with one hand, BEHIND HIS HEAD, WHILE SLIDING ON HIS BACK HEAD FIRST, somehow fires the puck @ the net as he slides on by (without looking) and scores!!

The goalie was PISSED!! :haha:

It's funny, because the announcers can't believe it, and have to watch the replay, and the clip I have even shows Wayne Gretzky (Phoenix Coach @ that time) looking up @ the jumbo-tron to see the replay (along with all the other players). Simply amazing!! :yippee:

I am a huge Habs and Rangers fan... prepared for yet another season of suckage from both teams. Also, I'll have NHL Gamecenter (NHL version of MLB.tv) for this season, so I'm pretty psyched about that.

And lol @ fantasy hockey... and fantasy basketball and fantasy baseball for that matter as well. Fantasy football is the ONLY fantasy sport worth playing.

I know nothing about fantasy Hockey...yet...& Hoops is ok, but you obviously have never played Fantasy Baseball as it is awesome. Me & my buddies were all fantasy football fanatics & about 8 years ago we tried baseball & it easily is the best to play. Football is a funner game to watch but there is nothing like running a fantasy baseball team...you should try it next year.

Gonna be exciting to see him this year! He's kinda taken up where Blake left off as far as being the Kings best checker/hitter IMO...

I'm sitting here @ work in my semi-old school (white-home w/chevron circa mid-80's) LA Kings Authentic Jersey!!

Well I ain't too crazy bout the first night of hockey.
I thought since I was 6th overall & the Bruins Goalie Tim Thomas was the only Goalie ranked in the top 10 & I didn't get Crosby or Ovechkin I would have a superstar Goalie by grabbing him & the guy gave up 4 goals in the first game...that can't be a good sign.

And I see sobay got Thomas 28th in his draft. Where are you playing sobay?
My team is thru ESPN & I sure hope the scoring is different since Thomas was 6th in ESPN's draft rankings. He surely could not have been 6th in yours & you got him 28th. And I read he won the award they give to the best goalie last year.

I am in a Yahoo! league. It's rotisserie style scoring (you get points based on where you rank in a stat categorie). Everyone was going for the Skaters, and I took the first Goalie.

Well, after watching the Kings premier last night, I am unimpressed sadly... :crying:

I got this awful "deja-vu" feeling... :banghead:

I know it's only the first game, and there are the opening night distractions, but they still looked just plain bad IMO. :what:

Maybe that's harsh, but I feel like I have waited a really long time for this team to "snap out of it", and they better do so pretty damn quick (no pun intended)!

If they think playing the Coyotes was rough, wait till San Jose hits the ice for their next game!

It's a long season, so I won't bag on them, but this was a real disapointment after the anticipation I had in the off season. I wouldn't mind the loss so much if they had at least played well. Show me 3 crisp tape-to-tape passes in a row. Show me some strong hitting. Show me some grit in the corners. Show me some consistancy in net.

LET'S GO BOYS!! TIME TO MAN UP!! :yippee:

Now that I got THAT out of my system, it sure was fun watching the Capitals and Alex O play!!

That guy is a WILD MAN!! I don't care what people say about him shooting too much, or showboating or whatever... He makes watching hockey FUN! What does he have already, like 4 goals & 6 points in two games?!?!?!? :eyecrazy

(It's probably more than that, but I didn't check...)

Also, I was really impressed with Paul K & the Blues...

I was very dissapointed. 6 goals to the Yotes is just awful. :(

Brown missed practiced due to some sort of injury, we'll see what happens tomorrow when we play the Sharks.

I know it's a long season, but we can't afford to get behind in points like we do every year and rely on some sort of miracle finish.

How many games does the NHL play during the regular season...80?...100?...more?
Also how many teams make the playoffs in hockey? And is it like the NBA where .500 teams or worse make the playoffs or do you have to have a pretty solid record?

Some people knock hockey because so many teams make the playoffs, and the playoffs can last a long time, but I think it is the most exciting sport there is to watch. I do not believe that any team in any sport works as hard, or sacrafices so much as NHL players do to win the Stanley Cup. It really is blood, sweat, & tears~ :2cents

It's very similar to the NBA season. I believe they play 82 games.

Hockey teams divide their team into lines. Hockey is so grueling that every few minutes the teams do a line change, basically subbing their complete team (except for the goalie of course).

Kings play at Columbus next weekend I believe. I love hockey.

Well after a couple weeks I am kinda liking this Hockey game. Still not sold on it completely though. Plus it has been easy to be a happy fan when the Blue jackets are now 4-1 & I seen CBS has them 10th in the power rankings.

I still don't understand some of the game though but I guess that will come with watching more & asking you guys questions, as you all have been very helpful  And I will get to watch it alot more when the Baseball Playoffs are over as I try to watch every inning I can.
Something that may help me understand the rules alot more is that I ordered NHL 10 for my Xbox 360 this morning so I should get that in a few days. Raiderfan said it is alot of fun so it should help.

Well that is all I got to say except I can't wait till we play those "lousy" Kings you guys ramble about & put the whipping on you guys about 10-0  ;)

Now, about those power rankings... :D

ESPN has the Kings 3rd, and TSN (http://www.tsn.ca) (FAR better source for hockey related stuff) even has them 4th!!

That may be the highest I have seen them ranked by TSN, at least that I can remember~ And if we can beat the Rangers tomorrow, people will really start talking!

Well, what can I say. No excuses, the better team won, but as far as I'm concerned, I got the message LOUD & CLEAR as soon as I turned on the TV and saw that for some reason, our BONEHEAD COACH decided that he would sit down out #1 goalie before arguably the biggest game of the short season!!!! WTF?!?!?!? :what:  :what:

Seriously, what in the f*ck was he thinking. :banghead:

Let's just rest Favre for that Grean Bay game. Give Payton the night off...

Hopefully, he didn't screw up the chemistry too much, but we will know soon enough as Detroit is tomorrow.

At least you got your #1 goalie a day of rest bonehead! Good job... All it cost was a loss, a loss of momentum right in the middle of a road trip, and perhaps a loss of confidence. Nice. :2cents

This bring the question to my mind...Is Goalies like Baseball Catchers in where they have to rest more games than the other players???

Because one thing I have noticed & maybe it is just because it is the beginning of the season, but it seem like the Hockey teams hardly play two nights in a row, at least I don't think Columbus has yet. So yes as little as I know it sounds like a dumb move by your guys' coach. Well maybe that'll help your main goalie so you guys can win most of your other road trip games.

Some teams alternate, but not generally if you have a true MAIN goalie. Guys like Patrick Roy or Martan Brodeur generally would play every game, only sitting the odd one out.

Also, they DO play back to back, just not that often. Kings play tonight after playing last night. Remember, NHL players probaly work harder than any other athelete, so back to back games are rarer, but all the teams will play at least a few back to backs~

Hey, my Avs are in a perfect situation. Zero pressure to do well as everyone expects them to be bottom dwellers (and they probably will), yet they start the season 5-1-1 with 5 of those games on the road. First time the Avs have EVER had an 18 yr old play on the team, and they have 2!

Thought sure they would lose to Montreal last night, but pulled out a win.

Duchene is a freaking monster with the puck, he just can't score. But it's a treat to watch him play.

Rules question...

Once the team with the puck crosses the blue line is it offsides if they go back across the blue line in the same possesion? If not why do they call Offsides?

Also this hockey just keeps getting better. I actually watched the NHL's morning show covering last nite's games instead of Sportscenter or the NFL Network  That is something I NEVER would of thought I had done.
Plus I bought that NHL 10 game & that is helping me understand the game a little more as it is a real fun game to play.

And it doesn't hurt that the team I am following are having a great start. They even said Rick Nash who is the Blue Jackets best player will be up for a possible MVP award the way he is playing. I know it is early but I like hearing stuff like that.
If I keep getting into this I may consider a trip to Columbus, it is about 2.5 hours from where I live. But I have always heard that even if you never watch hockey that you will love going to a live game. So it sounds like a good time if it doesn't cost a fortune.

Now that we have taken care of you guys ;) Good luck to your LA Kings the rest of the way until we meet again that is.

If I am asking too many questions I am sorry it's just that I do not know one hockey fan so I got nobody around me to talk hockey with. And thanks to everybody for taking time to answer my questions as I am sure I have asked some dumb ones :dunce:

Sorry, not trying to make it "so technical" I just like to know the rules like I do in football/baseball/basketball.

But I am enjoying the game alot just knowing that they got to get the little black thing into that net that the guy with a BIG mask always stands in front of. And wichever team does it the most wins ;)

Offsides in the NHL is called "touch-up" or "tag-up" offsides. If the puck crosses the line prior to the player and the player does not have possession and control, when that player touches the puck in the zone, it is offsides. Play is dead.

However, if the puck is in play in the zone and it leaves the zone, the team can send the puck back into the zone under a "delayed" offsides. In that case, the "offending" team must first clear the zone so that all players are simultaneously outside the zone. At that point, the team can go back into the zone and the delayed offsides is waved off.

If the "offending" team shoots the puck on net during a delayed offsides, play is dead.

Don't you mean, if the PLAYER crosses the blue line prior to the PUCK?!? :what:

The puck crosses the blue line all the time prior to the player (dumping the puck in the zone, etc.)...

Speaking of offsides, does anyone else remember how when Gretzky played, he would OFTEN purposly enter the zone with his stick stretched way out in front of him w/the puck on his stick, making it OBVIOUS to any linesman/official that the puck was entering the zone first... I remember him doing that all the time when he was leading a rush up ice for LA... Just one of the many little subtle things the Great One did when he played~

Well don't worry as we are on a road trip & are 0-2 & will be stopping in to play your Kings on Sunday(i think it is sunday) so you guys should get your revenge.

The good start definitely helps. But this NHL 10 game I have been playing on my xbox 360 has really been helping me learn some of these guys' names,
Before this season my total NHL "names" knowledge was Crosby, Ovechkin, Gretzky, Bobby Orr, Mario Lemue. And that was it & I know Orr hasn't played in a long time as I have only heard stories on ESPN about him. And I have only seen ESPN highlights of Gretzky & Lemue.
But now I know a couple Blue Jackets & maybe 5-8 more from other teams. Names may not mean much to some guys but I like to know at least the good players when I watch a game of any sport.

Anyways I hope we stick it to your Kings this weekend

EDIT: I forgot to add I would really love to see a live game but because I am disabled I don't trust my leg to drive 2 hours up to Columbus & I don't know any hockey fans that would go.
But I thought about trying to go to a Cincinnati Cyclones game as I live in the Cincy area it only takes about 25 minutes to get there & I have been seeing them advertising for the games the last few days. If I could maybe talk my brother into going with me I'd probably go.

Yeah, I agree that it always helps to know some of the guys on the teams...

One thing you may or may not have noticed about the NHL and NHL players in general, is that there aren't many (if any) NHL players that are truly "household names", or in other words, their fame extends beyond the game significantly. IMO, that is because the NHL is the least popular of the "main" sports, which I would consider to be baseball, football, basketball, and hockey. Some would even argue that tennis and/or golf would come before hockey... :what:

Of course, that ALSO depends a lot on the actual geographic location of the team, and their sucess ratio. In case you hadn't noticed, for the most part, Canadians are RABID hockey fans, and hockey I would say is their #1 national sport. To illustrate that point, go to ESPN.com (http://espn.go.com/), and look at where their NHL link is @ the top of the page. Then, go the Canada's equivilent of ESPN: TSN.ca (http://www.tsn.ca/) & look at where THEIR link to the NHL is. See my point?!? ;)

Seriously, bookmark the TSN site, and go there every day for your hockey news. Way better than ESPN IMO for hockey news~ :2cents

Bummer about not being able to get up there to see your team live... I hope that you find a hockey buddy, or that you can talk a family member into going to check them out with you! Start working on your Brother!!!

I don't really know that much about minor league hockey... The Kings "farm team" is the Manchester Monarchs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchester_Monarchs)... I hadn't heard of the Cyclones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cincinnati_Cyclones) before... But hey, if you can, go check THEM out! I'm SURE it's cheaper, and at least you could see a live game! I'll bet their fans are pretty loyal & rabid too!! The play won't be quite up to the par of the NHL I'm sure, but there will probably be more fights~

BTW, have you noticed how the Kings have dropped in both the ESPN Power Rankings (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/powerranking) and the TSN Power Rankings (http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?ID=548)?!?!? They started out in the top 5 of both, but have dropped way down now... Hey, I'm used to it. NHL is really weird about who they choose to crack down on. Richards laid out Booth and nothing was done. Watching the replay, Richards caught him high with a shoulder to the face. I know Richards is not a "repeat offender" type, but still.

Need to check out the Scudderi hit, I've been hearing about it.

3 games is weird. Is that part of the "games at large" porition of the schedule? I thought they were supposed to play all the non division western teams 4 times... It's getting so hard to keep up with the schedules....

The best part so far is that the Avs are playing as a team. Quinn probably gave them the best praise after the Oil lost 3-0. He said, once the Avs get a lead, the are very hard to play against. Three times already the Avs have been down 2-0 and come back to win the game. It's amazing. No one is "the" guy except maybe Anderson who has given them the chance every night. He even got shell shocked last night with 2 goals in 15 secs only a minute into the game. Didn't phase him. Just stopped all the rest of them.

Ovechkin is a monster. He's a scoring threat, but he's a physical threat also. And the best part to me is the fact that he LOVES this game. You can see it when he plays and you can really see it when he scores. He's like a 6 yr old with candy. And I believe, (IMHO) it's totally genuine.

Yeah, I do too. I really LIKE Ovechkin!! So many "Crosby fans" hate him, and put him down constantly, but i like the fact that he isn't a "media darling" & he doesn't look like a cover model. He just loves to play, and he loves to shoot the puck & score! He can come to L.A. ANY TIME HE WANTS as far as I'm concerned!!!

Geez... I'm still smarting after the kings second OT Shootout loss in a row! :banghead:

Better than a straight loss, but man it's hard to swallow seeing the boys play so well and not get rewarded for it! :what:

drbrosco: Don't get bummed about loosing to the Coyotes this year. They have been really hot, and i think they probably have an "us against the world" attitude with all the internal financial/owner/attendance difficulties thay've had lately. You can't always rely on what teams have done in the past to predict what will happen next time. case in point: when I told you that the CBJ are not very good, then they go & kick the Kings butts!!!

Also, take last night... I had thought that the Kings have been playing so well, and with Roberto Luongo out (he is the Vancouver starting goalie & he's pretty awesome), I thought that we would roll over them, but guess what... didn't happen. They beat us in a shootout & I think the winning shot was the guys first goal! :crying:

Anyway, you have to kind of take it as it comes...

Ovetchkin was on the Versus netwok last Monday playing against Sidney Crosby!! Also, the NHL Network has a show on pretty much constantly called hockey Central, which is just like Sportscenter on ESPN, but it's just for hockey. You can generally catch a lot of good highlights there. I would also reccomend that you look on You Tube for Ovechkin highlights. You will likely find quite a bit to get excited about!!!

I looked up my hometown hockey team, the Cincinnati Cyclones, & they are affiliates of the Montreal Canadians & the Nashville Predators.
They play in the ECHL.
Next thing I checked was tickets & I can get front row seats at center ice for saturday night games in December. Must not have much of a following.
I know sports radio around here was buzzing a couple years ago about bringing pro hockey back to Cincinnati but it will never happen imo. I remember the Cincinnati Stingers in the 70's, I thought they was an NHL team but I looked them up & they were a WHL team wich was considered pro & merged with the NHL in 1979 but Cincy was one of the teams not included because of their avg. at best attendance.

If I end up & decide to go to a game in Cincinnati where is the best place to sit at a hockey game?
I told my brother about how they have front row center ice tickets available & he said it is probably because those are not the best seats. He said for a hockey game it would probably be better to sit up a few rows...he is just guessing, but is he right?

AMAZING[/B] goals you have ever seen.

:yippee:

I finally got around to watching that video you spoke of & all I can say is WOW!
He has a ton of great highlights on there.

I would probably agree with him on that one... I would say that around center ice, several rows up would be very good. That will allow you to see the whole surface of the ice really well.

Personally, most of my live viewing takes place from the 300 section (nosebleed) of the Staples Center. However, having said that, I've always felt that the seats were GREAT!! Even though you're high up, you can see the whole arena & the view is unobstructed...

Now that is the Staples Center (http://www.staplescenter.com/seatviewer.php?section=seatviewer&page=hockey), and may not be the case in other arenas, but I think that generally you would be good w/center ice a few rows up. Follow the link above and input section 316. I've sat there many times and enjoyed every one!!

Some people like to sit closer to the goalie, and they would want to be on the side of the ice where they can be near their goalie 2x during the game. (teams switch sides for each period). On the other hand, other people want to see their teams offense 2x during the game, so they would want to sit near the opposing goalie... So it's really up to the individual.

Hey, looks like your boys kicked Alex's butt the other day!! :yippee:

Sure hope you got to see that game! I read that Ovie left w/some type of injury too...

No I missed both the Pittsburgh & Washington games. But it is hard for me not to watch college football or baseball over hockey right now as I am a huge fan of both. The games I have watched so far are always teams I kow nothing about. But they were fun to watch.

Thanks for the tip on the seats & yes the view you have is a very good one imo. If I go to a Cincinnati game & like it real well I will probably be a trooper & go to Columbus for a saturday game after the new year if I can get good seats that is.

I am very happy with the Blue jackets taking PITT to an OT Shootout before losing & beating the Caps. Yes Ovechkin did leave with an injury but I am not clear on what it was. Now we play San Jose Wednsday & a win would make Columbus 2 wins & a SO loss to what seems to be 3 very good teams from what I can see.

Hey Sobay!! Where have you been?? I was getting a little worried since I hadn't really heard too much from you since the Dodgers crashed & burned a while ago...

Kings looked really good last night! Especially in the third period~ :yippee:

Got Sidney & the Pens coming to town Thursday, so I hope they can keep up the good play!!

Good to hear from you again! :hithere:

This Monday, November 9th, Luc Robitaille (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luc_Robitaille) will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame along with Steve Yzerman, Brian Leetch, Brett Hull, and Lou Lamoriello.

TSN is running a story (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=297206) with the angle that Luc still thinks about that McSorley stick call (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports-related_curses#Curse_of_Marty_McSorley) in game 2 of the '93 Stanley Cup Finals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_Stanley_Cup_Finals)...

Not surprizing to me as a Kings fan... I know that I will never forget it!! :crying:

Anyway, the important thing is Luc getting into the HOF.

Well done Luc! Classy guy and one of my all time favorites!! :yippee:

By far, best game of the season to date IMO!! :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:

The kings were firing on all cylinders last night! Kopi scores @ the :27 second mark of the opening period & they never slowed down!

They played tight defensively, passed the puck well, and looked every bit as good as the defending Stanley Cup champs! Quick was awesome once again~

This win puts them @ 6-0-2 in the last 8 games! :D

The next ten days including this upcoming 5 game road trip will tell us if they can keep it up! Not to overlook anyone, but I see next Monday's game @ Chicago as their biggest challenge until they are back home against Philly on the 18th~ :2cents

Let's go boys! You're making me feel like a KID* again!!

* - Okay, so I was 33 when the Kings were in the SC Finals, but hell, 33 is close enough to a kid for me!!! :haha:

Where are all the HOCKEY FANS on this forum?!?!?!? :what:

This thread has just sat here forever!

C'mon guys! :yippee: :helpme :hithere:

What's up with your Blue Jackets drbrosco?!?!?!?

What about you mobiushky?!?!? Did you even say who "your team" is?

Hey sobay... You been watching the Kings lately?!?

Kings won yesterday against Carolina, looked pretty good too, even w/the back-up goalie in, & even though Carolina hasn't been doing well lately. Kings needed the win~ They have Atlanta tomorrow...

LET'S GO KINGS!!!!  :2cents

I consider myself to be a hockey fan first, an Avs fan second. But basically and Avalanche fan.

They've been up and down lately. They lost 2 in a row, then turned around and won, then lost last night in a SO to Chicago. They still seem to be doing ok, but the enthusiasm and drive of the players seems to be wearing off for some reason. I hope they can pick it back up, but it's a VERY young team and a lot of them haven't had to deal with this level of play before.

I guess I shouldn't sound like I'm complaining, they are #2 in the league with 27 points. They have shown that they can come back after a couple tough losses and still win a game. So they are playing well. But they are relying TOO much on Anderson to save their butts and that's going to wear out soon.

I had heard that they were "en fuego" for a while there... Haven't heard much lately though.

Kings lost to Chicago last Monday on the opening day of a five game road trip. I was really dissapointed, even though I know Chicago is really good.

I've been really happy w/the play of Smyth since we got him...

I know that there was some Av's fan somewhere that advised me that they used to like him when he first came to the Avs, but that he didn't camp out in front of the net & score goals like the guy thought he would, so he warned me that he wasn't "the same Smyth" as the Oilers had once upon a time.

As far as I'm concerned, he's been great for the Kings!!

I'd call the camping issue more of a coaching problem than a player problem. I think Granato tried to make Smyth fit into Granato's system rather than let Smyth play his own game and try to work around him. Smyth is a particular type of player and they never seemed to let him play 'his' game. So I don't think he really fit in with the Avs.

So far though, the trade has been a win-win. Quincy has turned into a top D-man for the Avs and has really shored up a weak D-corp. But they are still allowing way too many shots from aggressive teams. They need to cut that back a little.

How they lost 8-1 at home i will never know. I have never seen a score that bad.

I have only been getting any hockey thru the NHL channel's NHL Live show where they haved all the highlights & recaps of last nights games. It is just so hard with all my college & NFL football plus hoops is starting for me to pick hockey over those. But I am trying!
I figure after new years I will be able to watch more hockey as football will be finishing up.

I really LOVED Tony as a player... What a great team we had back then...!! Thomas Sandstrom & Tony Granato were so fast together~

Don't really know much about him as a coach~ :what:

They're called The Detroit Redwings... THAT is how you can loose like that!!

The Wings have been a great team for the better part of 20 years now, probably more (not counting pre-1980's hockey which was before I watched... they had great teams in the old days too...) They started becoming great (again) in the early '80's when Steve Yzerman got drafted & became their Captain. They have a GREAT tradition, and there is really no shame in loosing to them. Of course, that doesn't mean you have to LIKE it though!!

(geez... did I use "great" enough?!?!?!?) :haha:

Understandable... (kind of)

Don't wait TOO long!! The quality of play improves throughout the season as the guys get stronger & more used to the daily grind... :yippee:

Don't forget, there will be a short "break" in the season beginning on Valentine's Day February 14, 2010 for the Winter Olympics!! Hopefully, you get to watch more hockey before then, so you know a few more of the guys that you will end up seeing in the Olympics~ Almost all (if NOT all) of the players you will see in the Olympics are from teams in the NHL... I think you will find it interesting to see how it works out when you start dividing guys up by their Nationality to compete!! Canada is nearly ALWAYS the favorite, as they have the majority of the great players, but Russia should do well, and i am hopeful that the USA will too!! :yippee: :yippee:

BTW, if you have never seen it, there is a good movie out there called Miracle (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0349825/), which is about the "miracle on ice" involving the 1984 USA Olympic Hockey team. It's a really good story, and it's TRUE! Curt Russel plays the coach, and I personally think it might be the best work he's ever done... :2cents

The only Hockey game I have ever sit & watched from beginning to end was that game when the USA won. I never watched the movie though. I was really into the Olympic Hockey that year & usually watch a little of the Hockey every time we have the Olympics.

More than anything though I cannot wait for the Winter Olympics so I can watch CURLING :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:
I will be taping every minute curling is on this time so that I can watch all of it even after the Olympics are over if they show alot like last time.

Do yourself a favor, and look for that DVD!!!

ESPECIALLY if you watched the US team that year, I think you will REALLY love the movie Miracle!!

You will have an even greater appreciation for that even after you see it~ :2cents
