I know this isnt HD but I thought you guys might be able to help me. Im getting a new monitor for my home security system and my cameras all use the standard yellow white and red inputs. The monitor says that the input for audio and video are "rca to 3.5mm". I havent gotten the monitor yet but I have no idea what this is. Is that what all standard inputs are? If its not can I get some kind of adapter cable so I can still use the cameras I have? The only reason Im stuck on this monitor is because it lets you split the screen to see all the cameras at once without changing the channel. Please help me. Thank you.

Welcome to HDF :hithere:

Never fear monoprice (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021804&p_id=666&seq=1&format=2) is here. :D

Ahh, sorry about that, I was enjoying a little to much Steel Reserve last night and didn't notice the video part of your original question.

If your monitor has only one 3.5mm connection that is used for both audio and video then you will probably need one of these (http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Plug-Pole-RCA-Cable/dp/B0007V6JCK/ref=pd_cp_e_2) instead.

If you want something that you could pick up and return easily, if it didn't work, then ordering this (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10756062&sourceid=1500000000000003142050&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=10756062) through the walmart website would allow you to return it to any walmart.

Good luck. :)

You got a decent response from nevada_MO_Guy, but I must add something.

Does your 3.5mm jack accept stereo & composite video or just mono audio and video.

If it's just mono & Video all you need is your basic TRS (Tip Ring Sleeve) 3.5mm. If it expects stereo, then you need TRRS, which is EXACTLY what nevada_MO_Guy is showing in the second reply.

ETA: The above is a TRS 3.5mm to RCA. TRRS would have an extra ring.

The above "will" work so long as you know which jack is video, and which jack is audio if your gear only accepts mono audio. I'd guess that red is audio, and not red would be video.

Being more accurate would depend on the model number of your monitor.
