The nMEDIAPC HTPCKB-B is a pretty nice wireless keyboard. It has a built in track ball and also comes with a HTPC remote. Works for me.

I'm currently testing two things, one is an old logitech mx5000 (http://www.pacificgeek.com/product.asp?c=206&s=1313&ID=107434&P=F)bluetooth keyboard. The other is "the ball (http://lowendmac.com/misc/06/0327.html)" by mac mice.

I find "the ball" to be a tad cumbersome. The Bluetooth keyboard though is meeting with my expectations, though I've not measured the range with a tape measure.

a wireless keyboard that has a mouse function built-in with good range, small and slim but well built with good battery life, and maybe a rechargeable stand.

i did look over the Logitech 5000 last night at best buy, it looked like it had good features but the mouse again, i really dont want a two peice setup.

I do understand where you are comming from, though for me I don't mind two piece, so long as it's a trackball, or anything you can operate without the table. nMEDIAPC HTPCKB-B - It looks like this has the range. 10 meters according to the advert. I rather like thumb balls on keyboards. Logitech Cordless MediaBoard Pro - Also bluetooth so you can be reasonably certain the range will be 15ft or better. They ditched the numeric pad in favor of a trackpad. http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=204396518&listingid=39361529 http://www.ecost.com/detail.aspx?edp=51036134

I use this:
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=081

The keyboard has a touchpad and left/right mouse keys. It also has the media center controls on the left.

It works well most of the time. I sit about 15 feet or so away from the PC.

Batteries in the keyboard last for months for me. I have to re-charge the mouse about once a month.

that logitech board looks like what i am looking for, but it mentions its for PS3, do all the keyboard functions work for a media pc, will it launch media center and power dvd, can keys be programed for specific functions, can it be turned off to save battery life.

It's missing the windows key, in favor of left and right mouse buttons. So that's a drawback. Use ctrl-esc instead. If I knew of that keystroke, I wouldn't have gotten rid of my old 101 keyboards. There are reports if it functioning on various laptops. I can't speak for the media keys at present.

Looks like no one has a simple method of mapping the media keys "yet" in media player.

The alternative also from logitech is

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/keyboards/keyboard/devices/3848&cl=us,en

But this is NOT a full sized keyboard. It's 6 inches wide. This is geared for the PC, so there would be no issues with the special keys.

ETA: I can only speak for the MX5000, which powers itself off. It also has an offswitch.

well if the quick launch functions are not avail to select i guess desktop icons could be used to launch pdvd and mce and other shortcuts from the scroll pad and mouse ?

I'm SURE you can easily define other shortcuts, ctrl-alt-[keystroke] if you can't get the media keys working. The price is "right" at $50 for a bluetooth keyboard with a trackpad on board, and WORST case you can invest in a media center remote for your media.

Unfortunately this model is from the land of the not quite right. But it's got the range, should be at least 30ft, and the trackpad. There simply is NOT a PC edition, even though that would be damned useful and popular.

I paid 15.00 for my wireless keyboard with the mouse about 4 yrs ago. The mouse sucked, so I replaced it with a Logitech.
The keyboard was on sale at The Egg. The model I have is no longer sold, but it's sucessor is the Rosewill RKM-800. My range is about 15 feet.

Hope this helps

I have 2 HTPCs (living-bedroom) and use Logitech EX110 on both and can use them up to 25' away (tested through a wall between bedroom and living room). You can get it for about $30 at NewEgg or even Staples. If you don't mind a standard size keyboard, can't beat the price.
