Is it my 612 or is it Dish Network???

For quite some time my 612 receiver seems to crap out in the middle of watching something. My 211 did the same thing when it was in my bedroom. It seems to happen more so at night and it does it almost everyday. Some nights I am fortunate enough to get through a complete movie or two. After getting tired of using Dish's chat service, I started doing the "check switch" process on my own, only to have to do it every other night or so. It does temporarily work (usually for the rest of the night) but it takes about 7-10 minutes between the checking each transponder and loading the guide. It really sux when I'm at the end of a movie that I've gotten interested in. I'm going to hurl the effing remote at the receiver one of these days.  :banghead: :eyecrazy :huh

Does anyone else have this issue? Is it common with this service? If not does anyone know what may be the problem and what can I do? The last couple of installers that were here were pretty stupid, I felt like I knew more than they did...kinda like the way I feel about the guys in blue (BB). I really hate to have them morons over here getting my dogs all worked up. Any suggestions, theories, whatever will be most appreciated. :)

p.s. I live VA if that helps any.

i've been having that same exact problem with my 612. infact, i'm on my 3RD stupid 612 box.i've been on the phone with dish reps 2479265796 billion times. done countless check switches and even had multiple techs come out and "fix" it. NEVER been resolved. and guess what!? i'm STILL dealing with it after a year!

i was on the phone with 4 different dish reps the other night and acouple of them tried to pull a fast one on me and acted like they got the supervisor like i asked and then they would come back acting like they were the supervisor. it was very insulting and i called them out on it.

i'm convinced that they have no clue how to run customer service. finally after 1.5 hours on the phone with them, i somewhat felt like i was getting somewhere when one of the reps told me that one of my antennas on the satellite dish could be out of alignment and that i need to have a tech come out and check that.

i've also read all over google that the 612s are known for freezing up and that they're just bad in general. every now and then you moght get a decent one but one of the techs that came out to my house suggested that i get rid of the 612 all together and get a 722.

anyway sorry, i'm just ranting now cause i'm hot about this 612 issue myself! so i say have a tech take a look at your antenna on the dish itself for that 612 or check the coax cable thats running from the dish into the house in that box. thats what i'm planning on doing and if that doesn't work for me then i told dish that they've broken our contract because they've failed to provide me with service and that i'm not paying a dime on the contract. hope you get your issue resolved!

The ViP 612 is known to have a variety of problems, yours included. If this one fails, demand another model like a ViP722 or at least a ViP622...

Its not just the 612 box that has its bugs. The 722 is known for its unreliability. In fact even as I write this, my 722 is constantly rebooting, as it was doing earlier in the year. Thankfully I am just four months away from the end of my contract. That gives me a lot of leverage as to getting a free replacement unit, and also credit for my 'pain and suffering'.

Hard drives do fail as is the case with the 722. The 612 is another matter entirely...

I've only had such problems with a couple of 622s on any regular basis. My 722k and 612 have been great so far (9 months, and 6 months respectively).

Make sure they have sufficient ventilation. It seems the idea of forced cooling works mostly with receivers that are marginal to start with. But they all run hot, so keep some space around them.

I don't think that heating is the issue. my box is wide open, nothing around it and it just freezes. infact, its frozen up twice in the past 3 hours.

It's a ViP 612, faulty design...
