Comparison of Klipsch HT300 with Energy Take Classic

I have the Onkyo SR507, and am debating between the Klipsch HT300 and the Energy Take lassic 5.1 speaker systems. They would both be about $300. I'd be interested in experiences with either.

I have the Energy Take Classic 5.1 and think it is excellent for a small room at $300 but I have no experience with the Klipsch package. Energy is owned by Klipsch for whatever that is worth.

Thanks. I'm home testing the Klipsch (I've had it less than a week), but saw the Energy system for $299 at Costco after I bought the Klipsch. I'm finding that the Klipsch seems to lack some mid- to low-range, and sound is totally lacking without the sub. Maybe this is normal?

The Energy system has aluminum-dome tweeters while the Klipsch has textile tweeters. Does this make a difference?

The woofers are 3" on the Energy and 2.5" on the Klipsch.

The sub on the Energy is 8" vs. 6.5" for the Klipsch, but my wife thinks there's already too much base with the 6.5" (I have to run it at low volume).

With speakers of that size, you are not going to have much if any low (bass) at all. The "mid-bass" drivers are only 2.5'' (they are mids, not woofers). That is what the sub is for, to drive home that thumping base and rattle the windows. The only Energy set I checked out was the Take 5's and they had 3.5'' mids. Is that what Costco is selling? If so, the speakers are a bit bigger and will probably produce a bit more robust mid base, but not a ton. But since you have already tested the Klipsch, only one way to find out. Grab those Take 5's and give the a run. Then simply return the looser. Not sure where you got the HT300's, but Costco has an excellent return policy.

They are the Take 5 Classic. I have 14 days to return the Klipsch. Costco is 90 days on electronics.
