$165 at Amazon. Seems like a great price for a highly rated player. Any reason not to pull trigger on this?

Time to buy Panny BD60billc112 09-22-2009, 11:47 PM $165 at Amazon. Seems like a great price for a highly rated player. Any reason not to pull trigger on this? Chris Gerhard 09-23-2009, 04:05 AM That may be a great deal. One issue of concern is there have been many reports here and at AVSForums and others about random freezing with this model. I don't own it and can't comment first hand. This thread has some discussion of the issue: http://www.highdefforum.com/blu-ray-players/100232-okay-so-given-choice-oppo-new-panny.html I would expect that Panasonic can fix it with firmware and it may be recent firmware has fixed it, but you might want to read about the issue. Panasonic Blu-ray players have been highly regarded overall. Chris BIslander 09-23-2009, 07:49 AM According to the owners' thread at AVS, the freezing issue has not been fixed yet. Chris Gerhard 09-23-2009, 09:07 AM According to the owners' thread at AVS, the freezing issue has not been fixed yet. I would say pass then. If it is a hardware issue, no fix will be possible. There are too many players at great prices now to take the chance on this one. Chris pestilent 09-24-2009, 02:49 PM Thay also have a poll over at AVS about how many people have actually encountered the freezing. Definitely yes! 47 votes Nope, never experienced this. 59 votes Maybe, it happened so few times it could be a disc issue. 26 votes Yep sure sounds to me like Panasonic has a major problem on their hands! PFC5 09-24-2009, 03:03 PM Thay also have a poll over at AVS about how many people have actually encountered the freezing. Even if you only count the Definitely have an issue that is 35.6%. I would say that is a problem IMO. pestilent 09-24-2009, 05:43 PM If you add them all up it comes out to 55.3% either definitely experienced this or had some playback issues that might be attributed to this. Which way will the wind be blowing tomorrow? rubystone1111 09-24-2009, 08:34 PM I had the freezing problem with the 60 but not so much with the panasonic 80. I don;t have an aswer as to why that is happening.. becuase I hear others having problems with the 80. who knows. Jacob PFC5 09-25-2009, 04:14 AM Yeah and we know people jump on forums to not complain. Which way will the wind be blowing tomorrow? Forum dwellers are a unique group no question. They are a group that looks for answers and tries to solve them rather than except glitches or returning the product to the store if they show up. Do i think the issue is affecting as many people as that poll shows? No., but I think if you have a group (forum dwellers in general) that DOES know what to look for and are aware of a problem then it very well could be that many non forum posters just dismiss the issue they see, so it would indicate there IS some sort of problem that is pretty big. I am a fan of Panasonic. I have a 21 year old Panasonic A/C unit that still works better than any newer A/C units i have, I own a Panny plasma, and I own a BD35 as well. I say this so you understand that even being a fan i would say there IS a fairly widespread problem that people should consider before purchasing THIS model. ;) | |
