I have only 1 optical input on my JVC receiver. My Sharp LCD has an optical output. I have a Dish HDDVR, a HDDVD player, and Bluray player hooked thru a Monoprice HD-401E switch. Can I run a toslink cable from the Sharp outlet to the JVC optical in and get the audio from these devices thru the HDMI connection. I currently have to switch toslink cables from on device to another.

Most TVs only pass encoded audio from their own internal tuners. The audio from external devices such as disc players, set top boxes, and game consoles is usually limited to two channels.

I suggest you get an optical switch from monoprice to feed audio from your three devices to your receiver's one optical input.

Thanks. It says in the manual to switch my other devices to PCM. I would like to find an optical switch that is remote controlled so I could control with my Harmony 880.

PCM over optical is limited to stereo. There are remote controlled switches with optical audio. But, they all seem to include video and cost $50 and up.

Here is a 3 in1 solution for around $45 shipped that you can use. Just use the audio portion. Not sure if your 880 will have the learning codes for it but probably. A good HDMI A/V receiver would be your best option, but this will hold you over until then.

Thanks. What would be a good HDMI A/V receiver?
