8300 HD Box After HMDI Cable, No Volume or Mute Control

I am using a Scientific Atlanta 83300 HD cable box from cablevision. I recently installed an HDMI cable. After I installed the cable, I lost control of the volume and the mute functions on the remote and the box itself. The box and remote does continue to control the power and change the channels. However, I am forced to use the original remote that came with the tv to control the volume and the mute functions. I have spent several hours on the phone with cablevision and spoke to many of their service people. No one can resolve this problem. It is important to note that the remote is the remote provided by cablevision to work with the box. I should also that the remote worked fine before changing to the HDMI cable. In summary, Why can I no longer to control the volume or mute functions with the remote or cable box? How can I fix the problem? Does it have anything to do with the installation of the HDMI cable? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the simplest solution is to remove the HDMI cable abd connect component for video (red, green, blue) and whatever you had before for audio. Component gives just as nice a HD picture but doesn't have the HDCP handshake issues HDMI does.

Hope this helps.
