Hey everyone,

Just looking for advice on the best 50+" LCD TV to use with the Sony PS3 Slim. Thnx.

The best in my opinion is the Samsung B750 240Hz series, they come in 40", 46" and 52" inches. Have you considered plasma at all? Panasonic's plasmas are very good and cost less than a comparable size LCD.

You should have put this thread in the flat panel section, you would get more help there.

Hey thnx. I just came back from both PC Rich and BB and I saw the samsung PN50B860 and it looked incredible. I did like Sony 52" XBR9 as well. My only fear with Plasma if the LCD are the wave of the future, wont plasmas become more and more obsolete. I heard that samsung has terrible customer service. I also loved the UN55B8000 but did notice the dark corners that everyone mentioned here. It's a subtle dark shade on all four corners and odd thing only in the 55". The others under 55" did not see it or notice it.

Plasmas have a better picture for most applications and for less money. That will not become obsolete anytime soon. ;)

Don't forget though that Plasmas used 20-40% more energy and produce as much as 50% more heat than LCDs.

Well I have brought down my choices between the following;
Samsung LN52B750, Samsung PN50B860 & Sony 52XBR9. I'm leaning more towards the PN50B860 since for one thing it's very slim, slightly better PQ. Though the draw of power does concern me a little. However the UN46B8000 looked just as good as all the others and did not have the dark corners as the bigger 55" does even though it's 46".

That is not true.

Outside of LED back lit LCDs, they use about the same power and my 47" LCD gives off more heat than my 50" plasma. If you are looking at that CNET article where they measure them, it is junk science because they use the default torch mode settings (which effects plasmas much more than LCDs) and nearly no one used those torch settings in their homes. Well at least the smart ones, but if you calibrate it properly it is about the same.

Drop the Sony 52XBR9, the Samsung LN52B750 blows it away! I saw both side by side and the Sammy handles motion better, Sony is nothing to write home about. Samsung was behind Sony a few years ago, in that time Samsung has overtaken Sony in many ways! I wish I could download my experience into peoples heads so they would truly know! If you really want a plasma why not get a Panasonic G10 or V10 series?

True. The new Panny plasmas are the best things on the market right now. Buy one, take it home, calibrate it, and just TRY to wipe the smile off your face every time you sit down and watch it. :2cents

We have forgotten about the Toshiba Regza Series!! Good price, good viewing angles, and good blacks!! With the money saved you could buy the PS3 and a few games or movies!!

That is true in the brightly lit store showrooms LCDs do look better generally because they're more pumped up color wise, but at home the plasmas have better contrast and more natural colors.

I have both and like both, but the plasma wins hands down for viewing movies and television when you have it at home in contrilled enviroment.

If on the other hand you live in a Best Buy showroom stick with the LCDs  Just joking, buy either one you want.

Just consider the truth behind each before purchase and just not the sometimes mis-leading so called facts that are less then true.

GOOD LUCK! :hithere:

It is true that in the ultra bright showrooms, LCDs look much better than in typical home lighting since they were designed originally for bright offices as computer monitors.

I own both and my plasma easily beats my 2 LCDs for PQ.
