Bought an Onkyo TX-NR905 off e-bay "AS IS NOT WORKING" - all video functions okay but no audio from speaker terminals, pre-outs, or headphone jack for $250. Slight cosmetic ding near the back corner as well - unit supposedly dropped during shipping. Took to authorized Onkyo repair center and got estimate for repair - $325 total to replace one of the DSP boards. Time for repair 12-14 days. Had gotten a speeding ticket on my way to drop the unit off which gobbled up my cash reserve but decided to go ahead and get it fixed and break out the dreaded mastercard.
Got home today, my wife told me there was a message from the service center. I called them and when removing the dsp board they found a crack that had somehow affected the unit. They repaired the cracked board tested it and everything works fine - told me if I wanted to they could still order the board and I could pay more and wait but they will warranty their repair for just as long as the new one and I can pick it up tomorrow for $125. So tomorrow I will be getting my TX-NR905 for a grand total of $375. OH HAPPY DAY :yippee::banana:
PS - The service center by where I work is a marvel. The front half looks like a cross between Sanford and Sons' junkyard and a pawn shop. They only charge $10 for a diagnosis and estimate of repair for virtually anything that operates on electricty; from a transistor am radios to high end electronics. The back half, behind the counter, is a fantastic electronics 'laboratory' for lack of a better word. Immaculate and with every tool, workbench, and meter you could ever want. They are real a Mom and Pop organization with a bunch of young electronics whizzes running about and an authorized Onkyo and a couple other manufacturers authorized service center. They have done me right a dozen or so times. One place on-line once quoted mme $175 just to look at my projector - they did it for $10.
