Got home a few nights ago and fan in 622 was running loudly. The entire system had been off since the night before. Figured it tried to reboot for some reason so tried the hold in the power switch for 10 seconds deal. No change. Unplugged for 15 minutes. Plugged back in and still nothing but fan and the TV 1 light. Let it run like that for a long while. Still no boot. So I assume it is dead.
Anybody have any tricks to fool this thing into booting at least one more time so I can transfer some recordings to my ext HDD before Dish sends me a new 622?

Try unplugging it from the wall for 1 hour or more. Also disconnect any and all cables.
Hope this helps you out...

Left it unplugged for 24 hours and also unplugged all cables.
Still get nothing but fan and the "TV 1" light
I assume this means it is deceased for sure?

Yes, that is what it means...
Call the priest (Dish).
I did call. The priestess I talked to listened to my description of the problem then had me do all the plugging and unplugging all over again while she stayed on the line. I told her several times that everything had worked just fine for over a year and a half and I hadn't changed anything. When her tests didn't change anything she told me I would have to change my HDMI settings because I must have done something wrong to cause the receiver to act this way. She didn't understand that I couldn't change settings on a receiver that didn't respond to anything. This came from the same priestess who didn't know what an AV receiver was. Kept telling me that the HDMI cable had to be plugged into the TV. She put me through over 25 minutes of plugging and unplugging the same cables over and over again and finally said "do you mean you are asking for a new receiver? I will have to see if I can do that." When she finally relented and agreed to send a new 622 she said I would be charged $14.95 shipping. I had to point out to her that I didn't feel that a 10 year customer who pays $113.00/month for service should have to pay shipping. Took awhile for me to get her to agree to free shipping.
She must be bucking for a promotion to supreme high priest!

The video on TV1 on my 622 that I've had for 3 years died two nights ago. Because the tech rep couldn't figure out the problem, she sent someone out yesterday.
So he came by, determined the HDMI port was dead, and he replaced it with a 722 for free. He said they always have problems with 622's, which is why he doesn't even carry them in his truck anymore. And now I can record 55 hours of HD instead of 30!
They did try to charge me for a service call ($99), but I told them I shouldn't have to pay extra when I lease their receiver. She agreed and it was all free.
Good luck!
