Subwoofer question I can't find the answer too.

Hi,
I live in an apartment, and just moved from upstairs to downstairs, I am looking for a way to satisfy both myself, and my neighbors with my set-up.
I currently have everything set-up besides the subwoofers. I can't seem to find a middle-ground of sound quality/ being a mindful neighbor.

I have an idea about building an enclosure for the subs, that i'm not too sure will work. Hence, asking everyones opnion.

I want to build a box consisting of a top, bottom, sides, and back to put the woofers in. My thinking is that it will cancel the frequency going into the walls to my next door neighbor(the last one I have to work with on this), and just send it straight out into the listening area.

My set-up consists of a 7.1 system, and the "sub box" I am thinking of building will be located right beneath the wall mounted tv, and center channel against the wall, same wall that connects the neighbor.

So, question is, will this work?

Thoughts, ideas, opinions anyone?

Oh, I have tried moving the subs around to differant areas in the room, with absolutly no effect on the transmission into his apartment.

I'm also not looking to COMPLETLY be silent, I know that can't be done, just quiet enough so all he hears is the occasional boom from an explosion every now and then, he's fine with that, has been for the past 5 years :yippee:

Any suggestions, or thoughts would be great

Only thing that I think would be feasible is a really thick rug ,or to an extreme ,some soundproofing ,although that last item might be costly. Does he/she complain?? Where is the farthest point you can put the sub where the damage is the least?? What wattage are you looking for?? This last question may give you (and your landlord) the most room to work. Good luck and let us know...:)

The subs put out 100rms each, they are front-firing with 8 in. woofers.

So you don't think the box idea would work at all?

No, he doesn't complain, its more of a respect thing.

Thanks for the quick reply :)

I think the box idea would be great ,along as he's not affected too much, and you can get reasonable volume on your sub during an action movie. Some sort of happy medium..

My boss has his Supercubes up on sub platforms. They are like foam cushioned risers that hold the sub. He swears by them.

And from your statement,it's safe to assume this plan offers the ability for great bass and little landlord intervention??

Try a set of Bose QC3 headphones. The can reproduce most if not ALL. And no one will hear a thing. They are worth all 35,000 pennies.
Apt. living is give and take with your neighbors. No one can really expect complete silence.
Good luck cause movies and music were made to be loud

They do help with that more than you would think.
