What brand HDMI cable for Xbox 360?

I just bought my first High-def TV today, so I am brand new to all of this. I want to play my Xbox 360 in HD, so I need HDMI cables. Does brand really matter? I've heard that paying extra for Monster Cables or the Microsoft HDMI cable isn't worth it. I've heard good things about the monoprice website, but don't know which one to get from there (they have A LOT). Anyway, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Monoprice cables are as good as anyone elses. Unless you have a long run or need to put the cable inside a wall, the least expensive they have will do just fine.

I actually need one by Tuesday so I won't have time to order one online. Where do you guys suggest I buy one? Any brand recommendations? I know the cheap ones are okay, but I've heard something about they should be 1.3 Certified or something. Would I be able to find a good cheap one at Walmart? A brand name to look for would be great. Thanks!

As long as you don't go for Monster Cable, you should be fine. Reasoning is they are ok ,but overpriced like a SOB. Initially ,I guess when HDTV came out and they were really high priced, many thought a high priced HDMI cable should go along. Sadly ,when i got my Sony,i got caught out there with the same trick. My brother works for Best Buy in Florida, and gave me horror stories about what it cost to make those MC's (a better acronym would be MFs...:D ) ,so the mark up is enormous ,and sheer death to consumer wallets. Look around, but DON"T buy Monster. Reasonable prices for all things HDMI are here

Heh, not really, I guess I'll stick with Monoprice. Can you link me to the ones I should buy off there? There are so many and I don't know which to get. I just want one to go from my Xbox 360 to my HDTV. Will it really matter if I buy one that says "In-Wall Installation" even if it isn't for in-wall installation? They just have so many variations on there, I'm kind of lost. Thanks!

No kidding. If a device is labeled with the hdmi logo then it carries the signals a well as any other. Keep working on the brain washing.

I've used my monoprice HDMI cables for over 4 years and never had a problem. Why pay $20 - $100 for the same thing when I can get it for $5 ??? Monoprice has very fast shipping. I usually receive mine within 2 days after ordering. :)

+1. Got burned once at BB. Have bought all my HDMI cables at Mono price ever since.

I'm this close to buying an Xbox 360 myself and I can't wait to hook it up to my new 42" LG. I have an HDMI cable - which does audio/video right? - for the TV, but I also have a sound system. What audio cables do I need to go from the Xbox to my sound system? Note: I do not have an HDMI port on the sound system, just the audio inputs; red and white.

Thanks!

The Xbox360 comes with component cables that look like this:

The majority of the good folks at this website will tell you that component cables and HDMI cables present NO DIFFERENCE in sound/video quality..... the main reason that most use HDMI is because it's simpler to plug in 1 plug than 5 plugs in the correct color (component has 3 for video (the red, green, and blue plugs) and 2 for audio (the solid red and white ones). The 6th plug you see in that picture is only used for SDTV, aka composite cabling which would leave the 3 HD video ones hanging out unplugged).

Anyhow, I don't think it's possible to hook up both component and HDMI cables up to your xbox, thereby I recommend forgoing the HDMI hookup and simply use the included cables.

Sounds like a plan. Connect the component video cables (red, green, blue) to the TV and the audio (red, white) to the receiver and you'll be good to go...
