Meet the $135,000 Blu-ray Player That's Missing Features $200 Players Have

Blu-ray! A format destined for hobbyists and physical-media fetishists, one that will never enjoy widespread adoption. And this idiotic $135,000 BD player certainly won't change that.

The Goldmund Eidos Reference Blue Blu-ray Player has all of the touchstones of audiophile snake oil. Gold plating? Check! Heavy dampening? Check! Magnets? Check! But hey, at least if you're willing to drop that much you can be sure that your player is better than anyone else's, complete with every feature imaginable.

Actually, you can't be, because this thing doesn't support internet access or BD-Live. Yes, this is a $135,000 Profile 1.1 player. Nice work, audiophiles. The pathetic thing is that Goldmund will sell the entire 50 unit run of these things to rich idiots who don't do their research.

Cripes! Over $300,000 and we haven't even started shopping for speakers or electronics!

Some people DEFINITELY have too much money.

Lee, I've already posted that player. I should have started a thread. :D

I wonder if they also get bent out of shape with all the other silly high $ gear?

Come on Hatt. $135k for a profile 1.1 BD player? It doesn't take "hate" to think buying this is foolish especially when they likely do not even make the player they are selling. :p

That stuff isn't stuff normal people need to even be concerned with. That's all I'm saying.;) They have $200K+ turntables. $100K+ 20wpc amps.:eek:

You can't compare a Bentley to a Camry! Even though the Toyota is probably the better machine, if you could afford the Bentley, you'd see it's value. :D

I understand that, but I guess if I had a couple mil lying around I still wouldn't buy this $135k BD player myself. I would just buy 4 Oppos. :D

And when you went to your exclusive club to meet up with your cronies and the discussion came around to CE products . . .

"Hey - I just bought some new amps for my system - Mark levison - got a great deal - $100,000 for the pair."

"Well I am having installed one of those new JVC 4K projecotrs in my cinema. Set me back a cool $175,000."

"Hey PFC5 - what have you bought recently?

"I just bought 4 Oppo BD players"

:roflmao:

:haha:

That's nothing. I'm enjoying my $25,000 Mark Levinson toaster. It's the prototype, and because they decided not to enter the kitchen appliance market, it is one of a kind. ;):roflmao:

That wouldn't bother me. Really.

I stopped buying new cars after I saw how fast they depreciated in the first 2 years. Every time i buy one the dealer says why don't you buy a new one as I can get you a great deal and with your credit you could a great interest rate too.

Why pay double for the first 24,000 miles is how I look at it though. ;)

I bet the picture quality, and especially the audio quality is much better then low grade stuff from Japan. After a Panasonic and Sony Bluray player I finally had to bring a Marantz player for CD's since the poor imaging of these newer players was cutting into my music listening.

Not that I could tell the difference between a $1000 Marantz and a $135k Goldmund, but 50 folks out there probably can.

I mean, you can buy a Mustang that's faster and cheaper then a Mercedes S-class, but that does not make it a better car. For many, many people, AV performance is more important that bells and whistles.

LIke complaining that my $4500 pre/pro does not have bass and treble controls that a $250 receiver has.

If I had an extra 50 million laying around I'd buy some of that crazy stuff. What else you going to spend it on?

For a long time I believed in the law of diminishing return relative to the cost of video and audio gear. Mid fi stuff, Parasound, Ohm, Totem, were good products but there was not that much to gain from say a Legacy or Martin-Logan, let alone a Levenson, then I heard them together. WOW! Green with envy.
