I recentley purchased the Panasonic TC-P42X1, and was wondering if there was anywhere I could find the ideal picture setting for it? I have been looking but have been unable to find anything like this anywhere, it would save me a lot of time/annoyance.
Thanks.

Just remember - What looks good in one house may NOT look so good in another. Even from room to room in the same house, the settings will change. You might use the "recommended settings" as a starting point, but don't rely on them to acheive the perfect picture in YOUR house. Just remember to keep the CONTRAST low, and disreguard most other AUTO settings. They only tend to worsen your picture rather than help. After your break-in period, play with the video settings until you find what suits your tastes. :2cents

That site had horrible settings for my prior 2008 model Panasonic and I have lost faith in them having good settings for other brands/models as well.

Try clicking on the settings link in my signature and try those as a starting point. As was said each display could have variations because of mfg changes and lighting environment as well. It is best to get a calibration disc like DVE (Digital Video Essentials) or AVIA, but my settings might be a good starting point for you.

The Tweak TV settings were only off a tiny bit for my 40" Samsung.
I used a DVE Blu-ray and contrast and brightness were both off only 2 clicks.
Blue and green were perfect, red was off one click.
Sharpness was one click off.
I'd say they were pretty good.

Spears & Munsil High-Definition Benchmark Blu-ray disc ($24.99 at Amazon) is another excellent calibration disc, Home Theater Magazine uses it to review all types of display technologies.

Welcome to the Forum :hithere:
Short of professional calibration, using a calibration disc will offer you the best results for your display, in your environment. However, there are some who don't have the cash readily available for a professional calibration, or are not interested in doing their own calbrations via disc.
I'm not sure if TweakTV's final user menu settings are before or after tweaking is performed in the service menu, which could yield different results.
From the TweakTV site:
Tweak My TV
Welcome to the core of Tweak MY TV, a data base of User Menu settings for your digital HDMI input for cable or satellite video sources. Our recommended settings, based on the data collected in the field by our technicians performing professional calibrations, are designed to improve your HDTV's manufacturer-factory preset settings and give you enhanced picture performance. THIS IS IN NO WAY THE EQUAL OF AN ACTUAL PROFESSIONAL CALIBRATION AND IS ALSO NOT INTENDED TO REPLACE AN IN-HOME PROFESSIONAL CALIBRATION. We do not claim that our recommended settings are necessarily the ideal settings for all of the sets of a particular brand and model. Differences in parts in the manufacturing process, and more importantly differences in the components and cabling in a given video system are all factors that affect the optimum settings for a particular HDTV.
Cnet also posts some settings, and they are clear these are the settings that they found to be optimal in a darkened room, without any adjustment in the service menu, so you may also want to give their settings a shot also.
I'll be performing a full calibration (user and service menu) utilizing an Eyeone Pro with CalMAN software on my friends Panasonic TC-P50X1 next week.
If you're interested, PM me and I'll send you the calibrated user menu settings prior to tweaking in the service menu. There may be some variance between the size of the screen, or room conditions, but it might be a good starting point for you.
I highly recommend that you don't enter the service menu without the proper equipment or knowing what you're doing.
