What's Wrong?

I had BRP at Wally for $98. I set and hooked the BRP(Magnavox) up to my home theater system, Panasonic SC-HT920, it won't give the Dolby-Digital sound at all.
According to the BRP manual that if the receiver cannot provide HD-DTS decoder, the BRP will automatically convert HD-DTS to DTS. In fact, my home theater system has DTS decoder.

So, I called customer service center and asked about this problem.

They said that, still I don't understand though, my reciever, home theater system is too old to decode its signal, so auto-converted DTS signal which recieved from the BRP won't be read on my system.

OK, I know my HTS is kinda old, but it certainly supports DTS.
If the BRP sent DTS signal through my HTS, why my HTS won't give me the DD sound?

I have tried every procedures. But, only give Dolby Prologic sound.

Could any one have solution for this problem?

How is it connected. I assume optical cable? And do you have the BD player set to bitstream (if there is a menu setting for that)??

FOA, thanks to reply on my question Bigloww.

Yes, I did hook up with optical. Also, I tried to set up every each factors, bitstream, LCPM, and every each possible combinations.
Won't work DD sound. Only 2.1 ch. on.

If set to bitstream, it should work for DD 5.1/DTS..:what: May be an issue with the player. Unless there is some setting in your HTIB you need to set. But I never seen that thing before, so can't say. I assume it displays such when playingt SD DVD's with the built in DVD player? If so, try playing that same SD DVD in the BD player and see what happens.

Yes it is. It's a built in dvd player HTS.

This link shows my HTS.

I have no clue how to solve this problem, because I also hook my xbox up on this HTS, however, xbox 360 gives me crystal clear DD 5.1 sound.

Try a different optical cable and see if that helps.

There are two likely possibilities.

1. Many Panasonic HTIB systems with built-in DVD players will do DTS decoding when playing a disc on the built-in player, but not when processing audio from an external source. Check the fine print in the manual. EDIT: I don't see this addressed specifically in the manual. But, the only mention of the optical input comes on pp28-29 and it says it can be used to decode surround signals from a satellite receiver. Of course, satellite systems do not transmit DTS, just Dolby Digital. I strongly suspect this is the problem.

2. The legacy DTS core track on Blu-ray is usually encoded at twice the bitrate used on DVD and your sound system may not be able to handle the higher rate.

What happens if you play a DVD with a DTS track on your Blu-ray player?

Thanks to all of you.
I've tried every tips, but it won't.
As BIslander said, I suspect different, but same DTS format between DVD and BRD.

I switched brand new optic cable, but the problem remains.
I changed HTIB setting, but it isn't working either.

Before a movie started, it gives me clear DD 5.1 sound and glowing DD mark, while previews, or main menu B.G.S. on.
But, as soon as the movie started, it shows 'ERROR' message.

I have the same Magnavox Blu-Ray as part of my HT in my den. I've never had any problems with the audio. Both DD and DTS are handled just fine. It is hooked into an 8 year old RCA HTiB which is able to decode most lossy audio formats. As BIslander stated, the problem is with your receiver. It is just not capable of handling DTS from an outside source. Time to upgrade !!!!!

Thanks HiDefRev.
BTW, I have up-scale DVD player and it's hooked up on my OLD HT. It decodes DTS and gives me DD5.1 and DTS.
I think that my old HTS cannot handle signal from BRD.
Yes, I want to upgrade my old one, but my wife has different opinion.
She has very flat 'Audio sensor' damn....
