RCA Composite Cable Story

A few days ago I went out to buy an RCA composite cable for an AV selector that I just bought. The closest store that I could buy one from is Best Buy. I know Best Buy isn't known for their great deals, but I figured a basic RCA cable would still be farily cheap no matter where I bought it.

When I found the cable I was (semi)SHOCKED to find that they wanted me to pay $23 for it!!!! It was one of those fancy "gold plated" cables that was super thick with "advanced insulation." I asked them if they just had a regular brand that wasn't fancy, but apparently this offensively priced one is the only one they carry. Obviously I didn't buy it, because I didn't even pay that much for my HDMI cables...

Later on, I bought one online for less than a dollar. I got it in the mail and it works perfectly!

I just thought I should share this story, and my frustration at how much Best Buy expected me to pay for such a basic, SD cable. Is anyone else as annoyed as I am that they try to rip off their customers this way?

It's how they make a profit to stay in business...

It's been like this for years, any retail store that offers something resembling technical support is going to overcharge for cables. For printers it's up to the vendor whether to have a cable included or not and most of the time the cable is not included so they have something to mark up to make up for being loss leader.

It's a lot easier to accept this as the norm, and circumvent it.

RatShack typically carries RCA cables for $5~$10, with the option for $20~$50. You obviously want to avoid their speaker RCA cables which have NO shielding.
