Onkyo 706 Problem

I have had the 706 for about four months now and have noticed an issue with the video processing while watching movies or streaming Netflix from the Blu-Ray player (Samsung BD-P3600). The television (Panasonic TC-P50G10) screen will blink static on the whole screen when the movie or streaming netflix is playing. I can hear the audio but the video does not work and then after a few minutes the video kicks in and everything is fine. I at first really thought that the problem lay with the Blu-Ray. I disconnected the Blu-ray from the receiver and had my HDMI cable going straight from the TV to the Blu-ray. The moment I did the set up this way there was no more issues. I connected the Blu-ray back through the receiver and the issue came back with the blinking screen, so I guess that the issue has to be with the receiver The video is hit or miss, sometimes it will work properly but there are times that the static comes on and stays blinking for a few minutes before the video kicks in. The moment that I eject a movie and put a new one in the issue with the blinking static screen happens. I tried new HDMI cables from the Blu-Ray player to receiver and still there was no joy. Who wants to turn on a movie and have to wait anywhere between 1-5 minutes for the screen to look properly. Has anyone had this problem or have any comments or suggestions?

Look for a firmware update for your Samsung Blu-ray player, that is probably where the problem lies even though you think otherwise. It is not properly communicating with the receiver.

I just received a new firmware update through the blu-ray player today and again the same issue with the screen blinking. I tried to stream a netflix show and it took 7 minutes for the video screen to show after blinking static. When I hooked the Blu-ray from the TV right to the Blu-ray there was no issue, so I can't see how it's the Blu-ray at this point. Please help, anyone.

Either the Blu-ray or receiver isn't properly communicating with the other. I believe it to be the player but it could be the receiver. Contact Onkyo and see if they have a firmware update. My bet is that it is the Blu-ray player...

You may want to try using video passthrough on the Onkyo when you stream. Not sure if that will work, but it is worth a try.

But not a big fan of Samsung BD players.
