Connecting Comcast HiDef to a laptop

My apologies if this topic has been covered elsewhere in this forum, if so please feel free to provide a link to point me in the right direction.

I'm fairly new to HD and have been trying to come up with a solution for archiving HD programming I currently have saved on my Comcast DVR.

I've spent a fair amount of time researching this and have come up with a wealth of information, most of it somewhat confusing and overwhelming and laden with acronyms that I'm not familiar with.

Here's what I'd like to do in a nutshell.

I currently have Comcast HD cable with a DVR connected to a Samsung 40-inch LCD. Sweet.

I'd like to feed the cable signal from my Comcast cable box to a laptop. I want full HD going into the laptop. I want to be able to use the laptop as a DVR, recording in HD. I want to connect the laptop to my 40-inch Samsung LCD TV and watch programming from my laptop on my TV. I want every part of it to be all HD-capable all the time. I don't want any analog/standard def links in the chain.

I guess ultimately what I'm trying to do is be able to save HD programming permanently on my laptop's hard drive, and play it back on my 40-inch TV. And not lose the HD quality.

How can I do this? It seems the main missing link is a piece of hardware between my Comcast box and my laptop.

I have a friend that has something called a Dell Angel TV tuner that he says does what I want, but I'm skeptical.

Thanks in advance.

Great. I'd seen that before, but wasn't sure if it did what I wanted.

A couple of other questions--

I'm probably going to be buying a new laptop to run this thing. Anything in particular I need to look for on the laptop? I know I'll need an HDMI output and lots of RAM and hard drive space. I know I can also look in the PVR's documentation for other specs. Anything else in particular I need to make sure the laptop has?

Also, what about recording copyrighted stuff? I recently bought a DVD recorder and was disappointed to find that it refuses to burn a copy of most movies I've recorded on my DVR. Anyone know if this PVR addresses that issue at all?

Sorry, I can't help with laptop specs. Try posting a question here

If you connect the PVR to the DVR via Component, you will not have any of the copyright issues.
