Playstation 3 and my 720p tv

Hey all- I don't know if this is the correct forum to speak my mind on this subject but here it goes.

Since the playstation 3 price dropped to $299 I want to get one to enjoy Madden and also Blue Ray. When I bought my TV, HD DVD players were in, I got a deal on one, and ended up purchasing a Samsung 50 in tv that is 720p.

I've read stories online about people hooking up their Playstation 3 to a 720p tv and having problems with the resolution, scaling back to 480.

Anyone out there who can give me some advice on this matter?

Thank you-

I have no idea what the issue with scaling back to 480 means but I have been using a PS3 with a 720p display, Panasonic PT-AE900U, for a couple of years and it works fine.

You can go into video settings on the PS3 and choose a default video output setting. But, IMHO, it is best to set it at AUTOMATIC. No one should have any problems with a PS3 and a 720p set, unless they have no clue as to what they are doing. :2cents

Me too. Except my display is a LG 42 PC5D.

That issue was solved early on with the PS3.

It now scales and upconverts pretty well DVDs and does and excellent job taking 1080p24 Blu-ray Discs down to 720p. Even 1080i50 output from the PS3 to your 720p display should look pretty good on a 50 inch HDTV.

Its really on a 92 or 100 front projection screen that you would notice any difference. If any 480i60 upconverted DVD would look a bit soft but nice and less artifact and edge enhanced on you 50 720p set.

A PS3 on your system with the latest firmware would be a good match.
