I would think this would be the same as having them floor or wall mounted three feet behind the seating area? The L/R surround I have to go in the ceiling since I only have a half wall on the right which is about four feet high and I would think that it would need to be mounted maybe a foot higher than what is available. The opposite wall is full and open so it wouldn’t be a problem there but I want the speakers mounted the same on either side. I was thinking about mounting the L/R front speakers in the ceiling but then I realized when all my cabinets and TV are installed I will have about a foot of wall space on either side of the TV so I should have the space for wall mount speakers in that location. So is what I am proposing (four in ceiling, two wall mount) seem practical for my situation? I just bought two rolls of speaker wire and it was over $300 so I really want to be sure where I put these speakers. Thanks for the help.

First, you paid way too much for that speaker wire. I would recommend you take it back for a refund and get your speaker wire here - www.monoprice.com.
The rears and surrounds should be OK mounting them in the ceiling as you want. The fronts being wall mounted would be best and the crucial center channel directly beneath the TV.
Hope this helps.
