At the current panel life rating on plasmas of 100,000 hours before the brightness reaches half as bright as when it was new, that is better than the life span of most CRT tube TVs get/got. It really is a non-issue.
LED arrays also have a limited life and I remember Samsung rating the LED array for their DLPs using this at only 20,000 hours when they were introduced. It is likely that they improved the lifespan of LEDs since then, but ALL tech has limits to their lifespan so again this IS a non-issue.
It is also true what L2W posted about the store lighting being so much different than home lighting that it doesn't show how much difference it makes for PQ in a home. I own both and plasma wins everytime and regardless of the material being watched.
