I've used buy.com for small purchases. They have a warehouse in CA so I can be taxed besides paying for shipping. Just not worth it.
So for small stuff they are ok...I would never use them for large purchases. Same goes for Amazon, and I've never had a big problem with them either. In fact, get a lot of deals through them.
But when it comes to big ticket items I go with the specialists if I can't find good deals locally.
There's a reason onecall, vanns, crutchfield, B&H Photo, etc. etc. get a lot of praise.
