I have the same camera, I wondered the same thing, so I ended up getting Sony Vegas, I use it, it's pretty easy to use, I haven't had any problems, and I save the movies as .wmv's, and they look good.
Of course, it's all in what you plan on doing with the movies, but it's really good looking movies that I have done, which aren't many, I've really just played around with it.
Mostly though, to be honest, I usually just hook the camera up to my hi-def T.V. and watch it there, it's usually wildlife snippets.
Sony Vegas has a LOT of programs to choose from, I have the "Platinum"series, which works fine for me, but mine's just for pure fun, no work, but it'd still do you fine, I'm sure however you end up going.

Good luck, and I hope that you get your answer and enjoy your camera.
