My choices here are Comcast, Dish or Direct TV. FIOS is in the area it's actually one town over. Verizon can't tell me when it would be available to me. I had Dish when I worked for them and it was OK, I especially enjoyed the 625, the DVR on that is fantastic.
The reason I went with Comcast was because of pricing believe it or not. I have the VoIP phone, top tier internet and two TIVO HD boxes with every channel minus internationals for 179.00 a month. When I priced out satellite service it was going to run me about 100 a month on a 2 year agreement.
Everyone who I know who has Direct TV complain about losing their HD in any type of bad weather. We have bad winters here and I don't feel like playing with a Dish every time we have bad weather. Dish was good and of course I know the system but they don't have as much as HD as DTV.
I guess I am going to stick it out for now and see when FIOS gets here what they are offering in my area. I just have to be patient and wait it out...
