A yellow/red/white set is also known as an A/V (audio.video) set... it's composite video + analog stereo audio. SVideo + stereo is better quality, and SD Component + audio best for SDTV.
HD signals require HDMI/DVI, HD Component, or VGA. Firewire is the only way to record an HD signal.
