there should be a set of yellow/red/white outputs on the back of the STB. these are your 'archive' outputs. there will be an option in the STB DVR to archive a show to VHS. this is what you are looking for, I think. It seems that any other outputs are deactivated (on my coxcable SA8000HD anyway).

this will allow you to transfer anything from the harddrive to VHS. If it is a show that you know you will be watching on VHS, you could split the cable line directly to the vcr and just record to that.
