actually, let me clarify a bit:
the coax delivers the signal from the box on your house to the STB. You have several options to send the signal from the STB to your tv:
Acceptible: composite (non-HD)
normal: coax (non-HD)
better: s-video (non-HD)
great: component (HD)
best: HDMI (HD)

if it is a flat panel tv, it could accept a cable card, but check the manual. I have seen them available only on Panasonic plasmas thus far (I'm sure there are others though)

when calling Verizon, ask for a Standard Set-Top Box (non-HD).

also, keep in mind that Verizon has a referral program, so if you have any friends that currently use FIOS, tell Verizon that they referred you, and your friends will get a $150 credit.
