Default Sony Vegas vs Magix

Thank You for your responses, I just found them. I think I'm going with Sony Vegas, just not sure if Vegas Pro is an overkill for me. I will not be working with video cameras but old (usually) family movies and pictures doing a lot of cutting, rearranging, adjusting colors and just making nice (hopefully impressive) presentations. One thing I definitely want to do is some montages as in Pinnacle. If you haven't seen them, it is worth a trial just to see the competition, so to speak. They have the right idea, but they are however, very limited to the changes you can make - ie timing, #of photos, and no way that I can see, to make your own templates. etc. I'm not sure the best way to go here. I want to make those templates my way! I'm retired, limited income and want to do this for others and learning on my own. Thanks again guys!
