Of course, "support" is one loaded word. It is 100% true that the version of Passport that supports SATA external drives does so with one large bug that scotches it's use for many (AKA, the trick play bug, wherein if you pause a recording, you can NOT use fast rewind/fast forward).
Hello paulc,
I wish I'd read this before buying my eSATA drive I have an 8300HD running TWC's Passport. Is there anything I can do to work around this annoyance? I tried searching for 'trick play' but got 100's of hits, presumably because the search function searched for either word.

Actually while I'm at it, can someone answer [or point me at a doc/site]:
- why does this limitation [i.e. no ff/rew from pause] occur?
- is it really a 'bug' or an intended feature to dissuade people from fiddling with their box?
- are there any other features that are disabled when eSATA is connected?
- does this only happen if the box has used up its space and is storing the live buffer across eSATA?

Thanks in advance,
Pete
