Comcast and DVI port for HD
I'm a new Comcast customer after moving 6 miles to a new house. My old place had DirecTV with a Sony HD satellite receiver with a DVI port feeding my 720P Yamaha LPX-500 projector. All was OK I guess. I used the Yuv inputs for DVD and the DVI inputs for HD from the sat receiver. When I moved, there was no line of sight available to the satellites due to lots of big trees and hills in the area. So I signed on with Comcast who are the local cable providers. Comcast supplied a Motorola DCT-5100 HD receiver. It has a DVI connector on the back but that port is not yet enabled in this box. What a dissappointment! After many calls to Comcast tech support I finally got word that the DVI port will not be enabled for months. Motorola confirms this. I now must use the Yuv analog component cables to get HD signals to the projector and now have to invest in some kind of switcher for those signals so I can route my DVD player as well as the cable HD receiver to these analog inputs on the projector.
I'm not at all impressed by Comcast in any way at this point. The installer was a free lance guy who knew little or nothing about much of anything. Comcast never added my request for high speed internet to the work order so I now have to wait another week while they schedule a second tech to come and add that service. When I was told by a Comcast rep I could go to the local Comcast bill paying center and pick up a Self Install Kit for the internet cable modem, I drove there and was told on the spot that "NO" I cannot pick up a SIK as the work order has not been fully processed. Comcast has all these different departments and no two people seem to give a consistent answer. I can just imagine what's it's going to be like when the billing arrives and there is an error!!
