I will have to go over there and have him put it on TCM and see if it has bars than.

I guess I still dont get it...lol...I mean what im reading makes some sense (im a noob and dont know a lot) but it makes sense that the stuff is shot in different formats that I understand but reading these threads it seems like for some stations you change it than others you dont, he doesnt EVER change ratios on his TV infact I think he mainly just uses the cable boxes remote for everything and doesnt use the actual TV remote at all and all he uses that for is volume up/volume down, channel up/channel down, and then when switching to play games he does that right on the tv itself.
Each content provider works with the channel delivery company. Some are pro OAR (original Aspect ratio) like Starz and others are anti OAR like HBO.

You will only see bars if the content is in OAR and has a aspect ratio of 2.35.

That is the only way you can show a 2.35 OAR movie on either a 1.33 TV or a 1.78 TV.

When you get HD content for HDTV's it is much more common. Thank God.

I don't want to see The Magnificent Four. I want to see The Magnificent Seven.
