Are you sure you don't mean HV20? The only references to HD20 I can find are typos where they really mean HV...

In any event, this is all detailed in your manual... The simple answer in no, if you use the HV20 to record in HDV, you can only downconvert to SD for regular DVD, so you will lose the HD quality. However, this is simple to do with or without a PC and should not take as long as you say it was taking...
