I don't know where you are getting your failure rate info from but I work in the industry and haven't seen what you are saying from the sales/return side nor the repair side.

In any case, the many people I know and associate with that do have plasma TV's have not had problems (except in one case and it was promptly repaired) in 4 years of ownership. Also as each new generation arrives the quality gets better and the bugs worked out. I am very pleased with mine as is everyone I know.

Even if you were in a store with dimmed lighting, it is still a store and the lighting in no way resembles what is in your home.

Plasma delivers a superior picture. Pioneer, Panasonic and Samsung all make very good TV's using plasma technology.
