One of the biggest misconceptions about DVD-Audio is that the discs wouldn't play in a regular DVD player. While it's true you need to upgrade to play the hi-res tracks, virtually every disc also contained regular Dolby Digital and/or DTS 5.1 tracks that can be decoded the same as any DVD movie. Some even had 2.0 PCM tracks.

To my ears, equipment, and musical taste, the difference was minimal between the DVD-A tracks and the others. So much so that I've retired my DVD-A player and still enjoy the awesome 5.1 soundtracks of the discs on my current BD player.
