I know Panasonic made some nice DVD players like the 563A, that was designed to playback DVD-As. I can't believe it would be much of stretch to include it.
I know Oppo Digital has kind of taken over that capability in their players. Though I've read recently their proposed BD player will only play SACD, not DVD-A.

I believe what the OP is experiencing is the secondary CD audio soundtrack included on many DVD-Audio discs. Because the BD55 will not play DVD-A.
